    First Ripe Tomatoes

btw giant belgiums and making wine from them ... now you got me teased... how hard would it be for a belgian guy to find belgian seeds (for next season) or maybe even some plants for this season ;-)

    First Ripe Tomatoes

bentalphanerd, my bags are packed and ready to go - can I stay at your place until I find a home of my own ;-) of what I see on some aussy border patrol television shows (they are starting to import more than neighbours, home and away and flying doctors these days ;-) ) it might be hard to get...

Praying Mantis = Garden Pest Control

funny how you are talking about this very common (to you) insect that we have to watch national geographic channel to see a glimpse of it. We have to rely on our (two dotted) ladybugs to keep the bugs down - and now our ladybugs are being killed by bigger foreign species (asian and northern...

    seeds saving pepper seeds

I think I go with the teabag - method for peppers this year. I try to do mostly organic so the glue method is against the religion ;-) (maybe I'll experiment with this technique though just on a few pods). Tomatoes should be fine with the mesh I use now - most experienced tomatoe growers I show...

    First Ripe Tomatoes

I've got mixed feelings with this forum - lots of interesting stuff but all those messages of dudes picking pods and tomatoes already... not really influencing the motivation of this Belgian chilehead in the good way ;-)

    Hello everyone! I'm from Argentina

hi hector - it's nice to meet many people from around the globe indeed sharing the same interest... I'm quite jealous though that you all seem to have local varieties of the pepper : Argentinian, Brazilian, Chinese, American ... all we belgians have is chocolat without the habanero ;-)

    seeds saving pepper seeds

Hi Pam, I did consider the airborn pollens but than again they are sheltered from strong currents in the greenhouse (most of the time ;-) ) so I'm hoping on a fair isolation. The pollen that gets airborn and does happen to hit a non-related (pepper) flower and starts of a new cross pollinated...

greg, aren't they hard to move around ? I guess that the soil is very unstable when you move it... The first part of my growing season is in newspaperpots, fairly stable but than again I don't move them a lot since they fit perfectly with 40 or so in containers - I can move the container (like...

    hardening off

are these overwintered plants are do you guys have that good weather that early started seeds already are fruiting ? Damn I thought I started early this year (end of feb I think) indoors in a heated propagator followed by the lamps, but my biggest plants are maybe 10 inches high...

about the similar lesson for the boys : you could say all boys grow a purple peter pepper in their pants, based on the experience she has with peppers she will not even come close to boys and their thingies....

    Curling leaves

I wouldn't panic yet - I have seen plant recover from worse states than this one (hard to see any problem actually but than again I'm a bit of a newbie myself but still I wouldn't panic if this were one of my plants).

    My Babies :)

Hi Pam, the system I used this season was with newspaperrolls. I saw this item in a gardening magazine (looks like this : http://www.peppermintfarm.com/images/PotMaker.jpg). I made one myself size 8cm, but I made smaller ones just by rolling the newspaper strips over a tube (approx 2,5cm / 1...

    seeds saving pepper seeds

This year I would like to experiment in saving (pure) seed. Because I like to have many different varieties of tomatoes, melons and peppers, and they have to be all in the greenhouse and they all cross-pollinate, I should take some other precautions to prevent this from happening (I cannot space...
