    Sauce from unripened green tabascos

I'm not expecting it will be a hard frost but today sure feels like a Autumn day. I will go ahead and throw a sheet over them just to be on the safe side. Still I doubt there is enough time left for what still green to ripen.

    Sauce from unripened green tabascos

Im thinking since I'll have a lot of green peppers this season, were going to frost in the next few days so Im thinking to go ahead and pick them all and put some in a bag to see if they ripen but the bulk I;d like to try to ferment in the green stage. Is there anything special that I would...

    Shakshouka! (photographed recipe)

well this looks like something I can really enjoy and it sounds spectacular. what would be the effect with a little chopped celantro like a garnish? A fried egg on the side and some fried steak? I cant stand it I gotta try this. What is the country of origin, is this a Hebrew dish?

    Is it salvagable

That should do it. Puree may not be quite the right description though it still is probably a bit over chopped. I'll take a shot at it and it will be good! Thanks so much I'll post back.

    Is it salvagable

Thanks RM, let me make sure I understand. Since I've not added water, the peppers (seeds and all)came out of the blender, almost pureed, right into the jar and I added the salt, no water. Its just a mash. Should I add water enough to cover the mash say by a 1/4" or so and the liquid separation...

    Is it salvagable

I grew 4 Tabasco plants this summer and may have ruined the batch I thought I would ferment. I always like to read the directions after it doesn't work. I made a mash in my blender, seeds and all. then I put it in a jar and added some salt. maybe 8 oz of peppers and a few table spoons of coarse...

    harvesting Tabasco Harvest and etc

Wow Malaysia...I lived a short while years ago in Manila and traveled by ferry south through the islands. Thought someday I'd return and call it home. Never happened. No my plants are in the ground and I'd have to did them up and pot them. I have to decide soon as we had a light frost yesterday...

Tabascos are ripening and new flowers appearing

I'll get the water going again, when I noticed the flowers and pods again I thought WHAT??? It will be a month or so before we freeze and I can keep my turnip greens going. The idea of the yeast came from making grape wine. grapes mashed, sugar, water yeast, makes good wine but I had read that...

Tabascos are ripening and new flowers appearing

I've had a great time watching my Tabasco peppers thru the summer. They've been may favorite. I like hot but these are at a level I haven't tasted before. I have a couple of questions. I have 2 plants and both are full maybe a couple hundred peppers. There are those still yellow or green, those...

    Time To Pick

Well its going to break my heart as these two guys have been my pride and joy all summer. I planted them in April and about 80% have turned red. I need some suggestions how to finish. When I take the peppers should I pull the plant and hang them to dry still on the plant or pick them off the...

    Yahooooooooo Tabascos are ripening

While on the subject, I'd had been told that the Tabasco peppers (and I'm assuming the same for any pepper) that if I want to save the seeds for next season to let them mature, turn red. When the two ripe peppers were picked they easily released from the cap. At that time can I cut the pepper...

    Yahooooooooo Tabascos are ripening

I sure am looking forward to next season. I think the Tabasco is a really gorgeous plant and hope to plant maybe even a dozen or so. I just planted 2 I found by chance at the local Co-op. Hopefully the seeds from the mature fruit will germinate. Good luck with yours and I know you'll be as...

    Yahooooooooo Tabascos are ripening

The first 2 peppers have turned a beautiful brilliant red. Its really exciting. There is about 100 plus peppers on the larger plant. I'll pick some of the greens for bottling in white vinegar to put on my greens and pork chops or bacon and eggs and grits. Some I'll dry and grind to a powder and...

Tabasco Peppers , how do I tell when they are ripe

I'll do that then for sure. Thats helps a lot. I picked 5 yesterday and made some salsa. I used a freshly picked tomato and an onion 4 cleaned peppers, some chopped celantro a dash of garlic. On a scale of 1 - 10 for hot it was about a 7.5 or so. The flavor was so good.

Tabasco Peppers , how do I tell when they are ripe

Tabasco Peppers , how do I tell when they are ripe

That's a great idea. They are a little small for a sandwich maybe. I love yellow banana peppers on bread and butter. Cream cheese is a stroke of brilliance! I'm thinking a crouton with a spread of cream cheese and a pepper on top sprinkled with a dash of garlic and a six pack.

Tabasco Peppers , how do I tell when they are ripe

I'll do that. the one I munched was hot I almost went for a second but decided against it. I did the same thing with some Cayanne (sp) peppers (in white vinegar) about 5 years ago and still have some left in the bottle. It is so good on everything. Its a little scary to look at but the taste is...
