    pests Fungus gnats!

I've germinated seeds and raised seedlings during fungus gnats infestations with great success rates. Good germination practices and good seeds should get the job done fine and without noticeable effect from the larva. I've also run tests on H2O2 "flushes" at significantly higher...

    disease Worrying signs on leaves

Sorry to hear that. Aphids indoors are a big pain, especially with sprouts. If you have your sprouts each in its own small container you can take them to the sink and carefully rinse them off while supporting the small plant and letting the water pool in your free hand while you jostle and rub...

container Questions about Growing C. pubescens

Awesome to see those fuzzy sprouts, NJC! Your plan sounds solid. My 2 cents is that they seem to prefer early light and longer periods of less intense light to shorter periods of more intense light and heat. Ideally, I'll put them in a location where they get the first sun of the day - and...

You may be a little late, but at least you have warmer weather on your side - compared to me, anyway :) People closer to you can probably help with more info. Good luck with them!

    1st grow ever

It's a good looking plant, but it looks burned. If that happened after going outside, probably from the sun being harsher than the indoor lights. If it happened before it went outside, maybe the cow compost wasn't fully composted. The leaf roll causes me to lean toward shock from the change...

    SineNomine 2024

Hey SN! I hope those do well for you and that maybe you'll find a few new favorites. I just started my big annuum seed round this weekend, which includes a good few of the above. For both the Zapotec and the Rayado, I didn't have a lot of isolated seeds at the time, so I sent a smaller pack...

container Questions about Growing C. pubescens

I probably prefer reds over orange/yellows generally, though not across the board. For flavor and pod firmness/texture among those three, EPFH and De Soto have been my favorites. I may be splitting hairs a bit though because they're all good ones and I've seen some turbos that really cranked...

issue Ghost pepper plant moved inside

Proper pruning indoors isn't necessarily a simple matter, particularly once a plant has put on size like that. It would be hard to prune it properly without slowing initial production. Pruning it back only a short distance in many places can result in undesirable growth patterns. The bottom...

issue Ghost pepper plant moved inside

My ghost pepper that I started and grew inside over the winter got about 15-16 hours of light per day and produced okay. I agree with Hellfire that it can take a while and early flowers often don't set peppers. I wouldn't change the light to less than you had before when it was growing well.

container Questions about Growing C. pubescens

Great that you have those started! I'm not really sure how I'd compare them. The ERPFH is red and the other two are yellow (the orangish yellow), so if you want a red one that's easy. Of the De Seda and Turbo Pube, I suspect the De Seda would provide a little bigger better pod, but the Turbo...

It is what it is 2024

I'm interested. Are you keeping the tea above room temperature for the duration of the soak? I've soaked seeds on a heat mat before to keep them warm, but usually go the lazier route of room temperature and soaks not exceeding a day. Maybe I should try a longer heated soak with some of the...

seeds Tips for Germinating 20-Year Old Seed?

Man, I know how it is to be nervous about getting precious seeds to sprout! Myself, I'd go with the peat and promix option over scottex, but see more below. I haven't ever done any prep work to sanitize the paper towel or baggies/containers for scottex - though I have had mold show up before...

seeds Tips for Germinating 20-Year Old Seed?

I think there's two considerations when using container mix for starting seeds. One is that fortified mediums can have an inhibitive effect on germination and development of young seedlings and, while something like myco may be great to establish early, to my knowledge, none of the additives...

seeds Tips for Germinating 20-Year Old Seed?

Hey NJ. That's a heck of a treasure trove you have! My personal $0.02 is that scarification is unnecessary for those and I'd go a little lower on the H2O2 concentration (perhaps 1:4 or 1:5 using 3% H2O2). I think focusing on the fundamentals of proper starting media composition, germination...
