Good morning. Hot temps still, with an orange sunrise. Going up to the CG for more beets and another iris clump. Then it’s pickling the beets and enjoying the day. We tried a new(er) BBQ place closer to home last night. It was OK, but the family loved it. The restaurant was quite busy with...

Good morning. 100F yesterday with smoky air everywhere. CG watering, digging iris, and harvesting broccoli, one head at a time - hubby will not be happy with more than that as the freezer is still quite full. Maybe beets will be big enough to pick (?). Have a great Friday, take time for you...

Good morning. Welcome August. Power outage yesterday so some of the clocks were wrong. The sprinkler system is totally off. We now have 4 wildfires closer to us, I don’t envy the firefighters. It looks like another day in the 90’s, with no rain for awhile. Be careful out in the storm, Sic. Let...

Good afternoon. We had the windows closed last night because of the heat and the smoke from the wildfires. The fires are getting closer to us and making the air quite difficult to breathe. CG for watering this AM and digging up only 1 huge clump of iris. Many more are on the agenda to dig. Time...

Good morning. 99F yesterday, should hit 100F today, with the 90’s lingering for a week+. I love summer and shade. More iris digging, lots more. We’re trying to stay cool and get stuff done. Picked a few peaches that weren’t invaded by birds or beetles. I’m hoping to make a few desserts with them...

Good afternoon. Hot and hot. Busy early with watering at the CG, talking w/a newer gardener, re-staking 2 ‘wild child’ tomatoes that look like Einstein was growing them. Oh, the joys of gardening. Picked a dozen cukes and gave them away, will pick a few from home for us. Digging iris to give...

Good morning. 60-93F with no rain for awhile. Not much is planned for today except digging up a few irises and garden stuff. It’s just a beautiful day to enjoy Mother Nature. The CA wildfires are devastating. Our AQI has been over 100 this week, maybe today will be normal. Enjoy the rest of the...

Good morning. July is slowly coming to an end, but the heat lingers with dryness. WX has missed more times this season than most, especially with some sort of moisture prediction. Not much on today’s agenda except gardening. The Jap beetles are now eating through the CG, especially green beans...

Good morning, at least it’s still barely morning here. Busy Friday in CG, watering, harvesting 3 cukes, playing bug catch w/the girls. We’re just beginning our meager harvest here, but come August we will be almost as busy as Harry’s wife. (I hope not THAT busy). Have a wonderful day. Stay busy...

Good morning. Red sunrise, 90 degree temps have returned along w/the pests. I picked 3 color-ripe, hard peaches last night to see if they might ripen. No problem if they don’t. Going up to the CG to weed before the heat starts, maybe do a little extra watering. Oh - we had a thief steal another...

Good morning. 57-87F, hazy from the Canadian wildfires, red sunrise. WX says dry until next week and temps in the high 90's. The grasshoppers and Japanese beetles are ravaging through the garden and peaches, like Downriver's squirrels. I usually have 4-5 water stations for the wildlife - mostly...

Good morning. We had a bit of rain again yesterday before the BBQ, which was great. No more moisture for awhile. No watering at the CG, but I’m hoping to pick a few beets for pickling. The Jap beetles have found my beans at the CG. Have a great Monday. Stay cool and hydrated.

Good morning. Very loud thunderstorm rolled in late last night that brought heavy rain and some hail - for about 1/2 hr. At least it brought the temps down to a comfortable level for a couple of days. BBQ dinner w/friends and a relaxing afternoon. Have a great day and enjoy Mother Nature’s beauty.

Good morning. Sounds like a great day to relax, Sic. Here it’s a bit cloudy, cooler, waiting for that non-existent rain. Whatever is blooming for flowers are beautiful, lots of purples from liatris, phlox, coneflowers. The veggies are slow because of the high temps, just hope I’ll get more...

Good morning. Typical July heat is back, no rain in the forecast. Watered at the CG w/2 little girls wanting my attention - to catch bugs. The oldest (9) is quite brave and took mommy’s scissors to chop off grasshopper heads, as I taught her (!). She had great luck this AM wirh that and even...

Good morning. Cool this AM, hot later this afternoon. Good day for being with Mother Nature. Even the cat is lazy. Have a wonderful time at the BBQ Downriver. Enjoy that delicious event with lots of friends and chefs. Bring home a few samples for leftover sandwiches. Yum. Have a great summer...

Good morning. 60-84F, a comfortable day ahead. We set mouse traps last night, will check them out this AM. Whoever saw the creatures have different visions of size - from vole to ‘big rat’. I just want it/them gone. Nothing unusual on the docket. Have a wonderful day. Keep cool and hydrated.

Good morning. We were blessed with rain yesterday, so the afternoon temp dropped from 94 to 70. Don’t have to scramble to get things done this AM before the heat sets in. We have mice or voles at the CG, so out come the traps. The grasshoppers are also en force this year. Have an enjoyable day...

Good morning. I’m hoping today is the last day of 90’s for a week. Sure is a lot to keep everything watered. Monday errands, bfast group, now it’s home time for everything else. Glad you’re sleeping a bit, Chuck. This heat does not help. What’s in Fruita? Have a great day. Stay cooler and...

Good morning. Sad to hear about the insomnia, Chuck. This heat isn’t helping. Hopefully today will be better for you. Another hot day, with extra watering at the CG. One of my new peppers was fried, more space for flowers. All seems well for everyone at the CG. Have a better day than...
