Need help with first time row gardening.

In the past I have only used raised beds.  I am growing this season on a 36" wide patch of grass that was tilled and removed as much as I could.  I guarantee its not perfect though.  I want to do row gardening like I have seen on many farms.   Let me see if I have this right, because there is...

co-packer Are There Small Companies That Will Make Your Hot Sauce For You?

May I add, that making a sauce is really not that complicated.  You do not need to be a chef to pull it off.   You ask for advice here on a recipe based on what you really want in it.  Run your food though a blender until it is the right consistency for you.  Maybe run it through a food mill if...

co-packer Are There Small Companies That Will Make Your Hot Sauce For You?

Just in my limited time on this forum, I have read a few times where sauce makers at local farmers markets have gotten inspected by the health department to insure they had all the proper documentation to show the sauce was made up to code.

co-packer Are There Small Companies That Will Make Your Hot Sauce For You?

Everyone on the planet!  I have never placed an order with you yet, although I have had a couple bottles of Ghost Fire which were awesome!  This comment and knowledge of your procedures just sold me on my next purchase...

co-packer Are There Small Companies That Will Make Your Hot Sauce For You?

It is because those products you are referencing are designed to be consumed within a short amount of time.  Hot sauces need to be made so they are shelf stable.  Otherwise they run a risk of forming nasty stuff like I believe botulism...  Without proper cleanliness and proper procedures that...

    Is gardening therapy?

I for one, actually got a shrink to recommend gardening to my commander.  All because I wanted to start my grow early last year in my barracks room before I finished my retirement process.  Unfortunately, she still shot it down...

    Disabled Employees

Being disabled as well, I say that type of mentality is awesome!  Just be sure to outline exactly what they need to do to be productive at the work you need done, and find ways to accommodate their disabilities, whatever they are.

I guess your right.  As soon as I mow, I am guaranteed to get grass thrown even if it is 24" away...

    in-ground Inground Spacing

Thanks for the advice AJ.  I do plan on having raised rows, although I am on fairly flat ground.   Do you guys think the 9" gap between the first row and the grassline will be sufficient to avoid the grass creeping in too much?  I know, it depends on the grass type, but I have no clue what I...

    in-ground Inground Spacing

I was just worried that because it just drips, that it would essentially only water a 6" circle around the emitter rather than the whole root structure.  Again, I have never used them though other than in hanging baskets.

    in-ground Inground Spacing

Thanks! Now for drip emitters...  I always used sprayers before.  I would like to use plain ole pressure compensating emitters this go around.  Would 1, 1gph emitter per plant be sufficient?  Should it be placed right next to the stem, or a few inches away?  Would 2, 1/2gph emitters be better? ...

    in-ground Inground Spacing

Im almost ready to start pulling up sod to make my garden bed at my new house.  Of course I am trying to squeeze as many plants into my available space as I can.  Last year in my raised beds I think I over compacted them a bit, which is why some plants seemed to be out competed and didn't really...

What tomatoes for hot Southern GA weather?

Personally, I hate raw tomatoes, but my wife and daughter love them.  The issue is, in Savannah, I can only get tomatoes normally in the late spring and fall.  Otherwise, it is just too hot and humid.  What tomatoes should I be looking at getting?  It is obviously already too late to start from...

lighting New lights...did I get it right?

Did you plan on growing 12 plants to maturity under those bulbs?  Or are you eventually moving outside?  If the latter, those plants would get way too cramped.  You could grow about 4 max IMO.
