container Should I cut off the lower leaves of my container pepper plants?

Us anxious primates have a bad tendency to meddle without cause!  I try to assume that the plants know what they are doing.   So long as reasonable light reaches those leaves, they will contribute to the overall energy output.  Leave them unless they are dragging on the ground and rotting, etc.

    Desert Grow 2020

The last few growing years have been filled with disappointment, outright disaster, and greatly reduced interest.  But then 2020 came along and 'gifted'  me with plenty of time to devote to the hobby! The Pepper Zone sucked me in big time.   Results to date are fantastic, at least by...

    StettoGro 4: Spredner Tin 2020

You guys might try 'tickling' the plant's roots.  Gently dig him out and trim the tips off the outlying roots. This idea is similar to topping or FIMing in that the damage stimulates new growth.  I tried this on one 'stuck' plant this year and he did seem to perk up after a week or two.  (Of...

Ben, did you wind up with enough happy plants?  I've got a buttload of beer-cup stage baccatum if you want to brave the USPS gauntlet.

Check out some of the 'Growdown' threads in the GLOGS forum. The sky is the limit.

    free Free plants in Tucson.

Planted waaaay too many of the damn things this year!  I have about 24 beer-cup plants in need of a good home.  Free, or pay a buck or two if you can.  Most are baccatum, but there are also a few Thai, NuMex, Yellow S.B., and one or two stupid-hot varieties. East side. PM me!   From memory: Aji...

wanted Looking for plants for sale

I'll soon have a surplus of ~6 inch plants in cups.  Mostly baccatum, but a few NuMex and stupid hots as well.  Have never shipped, but willing to try.

IMO, that plant could use a bigger pot.  (They can ALWAYS use a bigger pot!)   Shade cloth or even a mist system to keep the peak temps down 'should' improve fertility.

fertilizer What Fertilizers do y'all use?

Every summer the Free-Tailed bats fly up from Mexico to roost under many of the bridges in town. If you don't mind people giving you some damn strange looks, a little effort with a broom and dust pan will yield buckets of black gold... BAT CRAP!   These guys are insectivores. They produce a high...

    Topping and Pruning Help

You'll get a lot of opinions around here.  Here's mine!   :P   Top once, twice if you must. Don't go whacking off huge chunks of the plant. Just do the 'FIM' trim of the very top Y.  This should be enough to 'convince' the plant to grow more lower leaves.   Never strip a plant.  Those big...

    growing in south Texas

San Antonio is humid and not too terribly hot.  It's actually pretty similar to Arizona's monsoon climate. Peppers should do well there, although many varieties will not flower or fruit well in the hotter months. No idea what a reaper will do. My Fatalii plants grew great all summer, but other...

    Opinions wanted - favourite non-superhot

You need a big, crunchy baccatum! Oro de Ecuador, Aji Mango, Aji Crystal.... the list is nearly endless.   Good description of assorted varieties at https://www.fataliiseeds.net/product-category/c_baccatum/ https://thehippyseedcompany.com/product-tag/baccatum/   Or maybe try a Turkish / Syrian...

    organic organic fertilizers

There's a colony of insect eating Free Tailed bats just down the road and under the bridge from my place.  They poop prodigiously and within a few week after their arrival in the late spring, good sized drifts of the stuff have accumulated on the ground.  A few times per year I'll go collect a...

Bonnie plant thread! post your plants and success/failures

From what I can tell, the pods appear indistinguishable.  Look for tall, bushy, prolific plants with the characteristic baccatum flower coloration.  It's good to see some baccatum in among the 'usual suspects' of Big Jim, Fresno, assorted Habas, etc.

Just joined the family and I already have plans!

A plant that grows and cranks out pods like the Dragon Cayenne, but with the heat and flavor of the other parent would be a wonderful achievement!

Bonnie plant thread! post your plants and success/failures

I have three Bonnie plants going.  All are alive, and to date there is no sign of green bell pods!  :)   A Dragon Cayenne that is growing like mad and already cranking out ripe pods.  This pepper grows as well as anything here in Az. and is one of the few that produces pods through the blazing...

    seeds GERMINATION CHART

Low 90s will be fine.  I run my germination chamber (an electric roaster!) around 90 with great success.  From experience in Arizona, I agree with your chart in that exceeding 100F quickly starts to become a bad thing.

Grow Multiple Plants in 5 Gal Bucket

Several small plants in one pot allows you to 'sample' lots of (unknown) pods in a limited space.  Co-habitating plants are fairly likely to produce hybrid seeds - which can make for fun results when you grow them out the next season.

They look a little dry, don't they?  Best give them a good immersive soak overnight.  A strong bleach solution will help kill any fungus or pests.  :P
