2019 the year of the Scotch Bonnet

No. So far, he won't eat even the tiniest piece of the mildest pepper. Doesn't mean I won't keep trying.

    Legal question

That's what I'm thinking. I'm cool with it, so long as I can spectate, lol. The one that was supposed to be yellow, it turned red before anyone stole it. She with the Brown Naglah and the Yellow Ghost. I got a Jay's Peach Ghost Scorp that'll probably be fully ripe on Tuesday. I hope nobody...

    Legal question

The Jersey Shore folks are mostly from NYC, you know, the ppl featured prominently in the show. But I was in Tom's River, buying a used pickup truck, and my wife wanted to go to Seaside, which is just across the the bay from Tom's River, for lunch and to check out the beach for a minute. Neither...

    Growing in pure Compost

I've got basically pure compost in raised beds; added some gypsum and some osmocote- type granulated fertilizer to the ones at home. Aside from other mixtures in fabric pots, that's the only medium I've grown in until this year. Never tried it in buckets or similar containers. The Community...

    Early Peppers Stay Green?

Every pepper I have ever grown has started out very tiny, in the unripe color (usually green)... Then it grows to its maximum size, all the while staying green (or other unripe color), then it slowly changes to its ripe color, sometimes with intermediate colors occurring, too.

    Early Peppers Stay Green?

That's something I've never observed before. You mean the second wave of pods are orange from the very beginning?

2019 the year of the Scotch Bonnet

I enjoyed your GLog thus far, Marc. My cat doesn't overturn pepper plants, but he loves to graze on them. He prefers the tender young leaves found saving the newest growth, but all leaves are fair game. I have to keep the door to my grow room closed bc of him, and he has been known to take...

    Legal question

I'm guessing you've never been to NJ? Motorcyclists pump our own gas. ☺️ NYers are obnoxious as hell, and the NJ suburbs by NYC are pretty much on the exact same level. Philadelphia sports fans can hold their own in almost any obnoxiousness competition, and my part of Jersey is 98% Phila...

    Legal question

Thanks! I appreciate the kind words. I'm trying my hardest, and I am results so far, overall. You should see what some of Jersey's real gardeners can accomplish. I'm just a dedicated neophyte. NJ is probably best known for the Turnpike, endless stretches of urban/suburban blight, and high...

is this insect a good guy or a bad guy?

That's rad. I see those little effers all the time. Many are that color, some are more of a copper or bronze color. I never knew they were predators, but I had also never suspected them of damaging my plants. They just seem to hang out on the top layer of the canopy, chillin'.

    Early Peppers Stay Green?

I think there's a lot of mythology and urban legends about methods for "tricking" your plants into behaving certain ways. Some are measurable and week-known to legit, like topping to encourage more branching. (Whether or not topping ultimately leads to more pods by season's end has been the...

    Bike808 getting Dirty in Jersey

Thanks, Paul. I made the signs to comply with a Community Garden rule that all the growers, including myself, had been flouting for years. But I actually ended up having fun making those. Then, some of the other growers liked them enough that I was commissioned to make a couple more for other...

Help me identify this nutrient deficiency

See, I got 23 fairly rad Zapotecs, and one yellow dud. It can't be climate. There's something going on with the one plant. If he's just a weirdo, I can live with that... But if it's a pathogen, I want to stop the spread. And if it's a deficiency that's manifesting itself in just the one plant bc...

    Bike808 getting Dirty in Jersey

Well, I've been blessed with good neighbors and and ample communal lawn chairs. Life is good. And peppers by the front stoop are good, too. Actually got compliments from passers-by, and the plants don't even look good yet.

    Bike808 getting Dirty in Jersey

Haha, right now, my wife is in a Summer League where they score 9s as strikes if you roll a 9 on the first toss per frame. Not my style, plus i work on Thursday nights and that's when the games are. So yeah, right now, she's the bowler. I haven't exactly retired, but for me, this is my...

Help me identify this nutrient deficiency

The seeds came from last year's harvest. I saved them from a handful of pods. I get it that even seeds from the exact same pod will have different genetics, and some will be better than others. I'm far cooler than my sister, even though we got the same parents. Maybe this yellow plant is just...

    Bike808 getting Dirty in Jersey

Wow. I guess I inadvertently abandoned this thing. I've had since heartache and some headaches. I had issues with the weather, what turned out to be an incomplete hardening off period, et cetera. So my plants looked awful and I guess shame pushed me away from my own GLOG. Fast forward to now...
