    photography Pet picture thread!

I'm a rattie mom again! I picked up my two boys last Saturday. The white one is Grenn and the grey one is Pyp. They weren't happy that I was cleaning their cage  (The super bright spot in the background is my pepper seedling setup.)

    container Potentially Unnecessary Potting-Up?

I saw a gnat near my baby plants yesterday and now I'm paranoid, so I'm thinking about repotting into new soil and pots. The pots they're in now are small (3"? the smallest "can go in the ground" pots that Walmart had) and I know I have at least a couple more weeks until it's consistently nice...

I threw away all my infested pots last night. Almost everything from my last batch of germination - jalapeños, cayenne mix, and sweet bell mix. I'm so disappointed :( I saved one little jalapeño sprout and put it out in the sunroom. I figured I was just going to throw it away, so I might as well...

    Do It Yourself Thread...

Nice coop! I want chickens of my own, but mom's opposed - says they smell. Alas, I'll just make do with the garden for now...   That fenced in garden is lovely.   As for DIY, Dad and I built a deck a couple years ago. This is the best picture I could find. We managed to make it perfectly square...

I've never heard of a mosquito dunk... What is that and where can I get some?    Thanks for all the help - I was so disappointed when I saw the larvae last night! Though it kind of figures - everything's been going so well so far...  If I end up doing the hydrogen peroxide/water solution, what...

Yep, that's it. I wish I'd gotten a picture - I squeezed and all the little larvae heads popped out. Gross! What can I go to combat these guys? Anything? Or am I out of luck?

So I was checking on my germinating seeds tonight and noticed that my first jalapeno hook is... Just a stem. There are no leaves. So I picked up the seed case and squeezed it to see if perhaps the leaves just kind of detached (silly, yes, but Im new...). Instead of leaves, the seed casing...

    Roo's (very first) Glog!

So I've seen mentions of an oscillating fan... Should I use one? And if so, when? When there just tiny baby plants, or should I wait till they have a couple sets of true leaves?

    Roo's (very first) Glog!

I started my last group of seeds yesterday (seeds from my Park Seed order). I would have preferred to do everyone at once, but didn't have the space. Alas, everything's working now and I'm only a little afraid of what I've gotten myself into! I don't think I'll have the room for everything if...

    Roo's (very first) Glog!

Not that the plugs weren't strong enough - the fixtures that came with plugs already wired in were either too big for my space (I don't have the room for a 4' shop light  ) or the bulbs wouldn't emit enough lumens/K/what have you for it to be effective (at least, according to the...

    Roo's (very first) Glog!

I finally got my lights the way I want them! I don't need a lot - I don't expect all of these guys to make it (the leaves on a couple aren't separating, and one is missing the tips of its leaves - the seed got stuck and I foolishly tried to pull it off...we'll see if it survives!), and I'd be...

    The thread of Creepy Crawlies

That's a black rat snake. We have them kind of all over around here! One got stuck in a vent a couple years ago... Took forever to free him and we ended up having to bend all the slats because they were digging into him. He wasn't quite as happy with us as the one above     We also have...

    The thread of Creepy Crawlies

I appreciate creepy crawlies, but ... I'm not a huge fan of being super close (unless they're snakes - then count me in!) Still, they're fun to photograph. I got a new lens that I'm anxious to try out on the bugs this summer, but these are photos from years past...     Last year's...

    Roo's (very first) Glog!

Let there be light!   It's kind of makeshift right now... I wanted to buy a fluorescent tube light but the only one I could find that came with a plug wasn't strong enough. I'm no electrician, so I didn't want to get one I'd have to wire myself - I'd prefer to live through this process...

    Roo's (very first) Glog!

We found plans online for a 10+ foot tall fence - posts, wire, and fishing line. Hopefully this'll do the trick... My idea was to build a frame out of 4x4s and attach chicken wire or that metal fencing with the little rectangles (not sure what it's called) and build a door, but I was overruled...

    Roo's (very first) Glog!

I have never glog'ed before, but since I'm starting from seeds this year it seemed only appropriate to start now! I've never actually followed a glog, so apologies if mine misses the mark a bit...   On March 8, I started seeds for Dragon Cayenne (I saved these seeds last year and I'm not...

    Growing for Newbies

I recommend Cherry Hots if you like a milder heat. I really like them because I can eat them without suffering  I'm a lightweight. If I remember correctly, there was a bit of heat, but it wasn't much. Looks like a good list! I only meant to pick a couple varieties, but...ended up with more...
