    hot-sauce Hot Sauce Snob

Jim knows his sauces very well, having been in the biz. That pic is from Open Fields.   Now the thing about that pic is, who is that effigy next to him? It represents Scotch Bonnet Steve (aka SBS), who was a legendary grower and breeder of several strains of peppers. Ace pepper smoker, too. He...

The Mothers of Invention, from the album Lumpy Gravy:   Everything in the universe is made of one element, which is a note, a single note. Atoms are really vibrations, you know, which are extensions of THE BIG NOTE, everything's one note.

    food HOT dogs

Not hot - I wish I had an image of a pic I saw in a 1960s cookbook of easy recipes for parties. One recipe was a big pan of baked beans, with hot dogs jammed into it and standing like tombstones. It looked like Awww screw it, here are your dogs and beans.   But wait, there's more! I do have an...

    Possible Scam?

There was a local discussion board that was targeted by some scammer(s) trying to do a primitive SEO optimization by planting some health/fitness product names in the text and then posting that all over the place. They were obviously written in some other language and run through some really bad...

    Possible Scam?

You guys are luckier than I am. I used to win BMWs and Irish lotteries (sometimes Spanish) all the time. No more. Now not even the Nigerian royal orphans with dying wealthy spouses sometimes with a faith in God that they were making the right choice in me.   Now I get messages from Microsoft or...

Then maybe you know Jim Campbell, who owned the Mild to Wild company. He's the one who opened his pepper field for gleaning back in 1998. That has turned into a big campout event, which survives even after the pepper field is no more.     *Jim Neighbors voice* BACK HOME AGAIN IN INDIANA, O'ER...

BTW  I don't know if you've met John in person, but when he's in Santa drag he can be very convincing. White beard and all.   I wonder if we have met before, if not in person then online.

Thanks, I'm exploring the sub-forums. This place has a lot to study. It looks like a lot of good people have been here for a long time. It will be tough to come up with contributions that someone hasn't covered already. But, new ideas and situations come along all the time. It's an adventure.

    sandwiches Spicy sauces for sandwiches?

For a tangy mayo-based spread, try adding a bit of hot pepper vinegar, which I'm sure many of you have on hand. Add more and you'll get a pouring/dipping sauce instead of a spread.   Or, pretend you're making a tartar sauce, only with diced moderate-heat peppers like serranos and maybe onions...

    Wasted superhots

I harvested plenty of pods this year but also lost a lot of immature pods to frost. Those ghosts and habs were just hitting their stride; they could have used another two months or so.   Normally I make sauce and I did make some this year, but I have loads of sauce already. So I smoked/dried a...

    Nut Butters

There's a company called Krema here in town, they have many nut products including a peanut butter with hot pepper in it -  the only place I've ever seen that.   The stuff has a low-to-moderate heat. It is THICK with some oil separation. It takes effort to stir it in.

No, he banned me completely. Oh well, I wasn't exchanging seeds and that's the main purpose of that board. This board seems to be much more alive, and with better software.   It did seem strange to get busted for finger puppets, though.

NECM!  Glad to find you again! I suspected some of the old CH mafia might be here. I was looking for a friendly place to talk peppers, after Tim kicked me out of C2C.

I loved the CaJohn's line of pepper purees - just one variety of pepper, vinegar and IIRC a bit of salt. Pure pepper flavor, kind of like a single-malt whisky vs. a blend.   But, CaJohn sold the company and I don't know if those purees are still being made. The labels were plastic, so for fun I...
