    P. Dreadie Memorial Group Grow 2016

Hey John! I am so honored that this thread is still going, and thrilled that there are highly skilled chile heads devoting their time and resources to the Papa Dreadie. I'm not even sure the last time I grew Erin's wonderful namesake pepper, but at this point I regret that I didn't give it the...

annuum What is the best tasting annuum ?

+1 what Michael said. But any good, green, meaty, roasted-and-peeled southwestern pod type could be said to be "the best-tasting annuum." My personal favorites are Pueblo Chile, NuMex Sandia Select, and Faron Lytle's new Giuzeppi Chile...

    P. Dreadie Memorial Group Grow 2016

Thanks for looking Paul!     Thanks John! That's a really good question—As I remember from my 2016 grow, from seeds collected from Erin's own pods shown in the above photos, not every single pod had those spikes. It may have been an environmental thing, as it seems like maybe the spikey ones...

    P. Dreadie Memorial Group Grow 2016

These are the original Papa Dreadie pods sent to me by Erin Mason in 2013. As far as I know, all true Papa Dreadie plants in existence today descend from the seeds of these three pods:     Papa Dreadies growing in Erin's garden in Texas:     Memories of Erin posted by his wife Liz on his...

Thanks Paul! I'm excited too, and beginning to feel a little jealous that I can't grow Erin's pepper this year! It's good to hear from you bro!

Thanks for checking that out Tybo. There were some real good photos in the original post, but the links are now broken because my image hosting service went away...Considering the continued interest in this thread, I would love to put them back, if I could figure out how to do it without...

    P. Dreadie Memorial Group Grow 2016

Agreed John! For our iso grows we always try to do at least 60 plants of any one variety, to ensure genetic diversity. It's not practical to use netting in our climate, so we rely on at least 2 miles of physical distance between grows to provide isolation. As you said, I would love to see more...

    P. Dreadie Memorial Group Grow 2016

Hey Eric! Thanks so much for doing that, and thanks everyone here for your continued interest in Erin's wonderful pepper. Yes, those plants were OP, but there were 12 of them together, in a whole other area of the garden, so I'm thinking the seeds should be reliable. I would love to do a big...

    Bacterial Leaf Spot question

I've found that plants with dark green leaves from plenty of nitrogen in the soil seem immune to BLS, so the best cure being prevention, I try to always ensure that my soil is very rich before plant out time, and my transplants have plenty of N2 in their soil as well. If, for reasons beyond my...

    Windchicken's 2019 NOT a glog...

Thanks so much Fabrizio! That Sandia Select is really hard to beat...The plants are prodigious, and, as you said, what a wonderful flavor! I had three pods of the dried chiles chopped up in my oatmeal just this morning...   Lol, yes, I've been working toward that ratio for several years now...

    Chile Pequin Pepper

"Pequin" can be a real ambiguous term...Yours look exactly like the Hatch, NM variant...I think they are used primarily for decorative ristras. I grew them one season several years ago, and the heat was lacking compared to the classic Texas Pequin...If you need seeds for the true Texas Pequin...

Lol, thanks Shane!   Wow, that is so cool! Yes, I know the Nacogdoches/Lufkin/Center/Carthage area well, and spent quite a bit of time around there when I was younger...My maternal grandmother's family was originally from Tenaha, so my people probably knew your people! The country on both...
