media I'm Coco for my Big Black Mama

Why in the world do you want to "Grow" and "Bloom"? Once a pepper starts setting pods, there's neither a need to try to encourage flowering, nor any stopping it... I've been doing outdoor coco grows for years. Love the stuff.

    Jalepenõ plant has stopped growing...

Pruning is a very over-played subject around here.  If you're going to prune, have a damn good reason for doing so (topping plants for better use of lighting is a good use, but you're far from that point).  Otherwise, just leave it alone, and let it do its thing.   If that other plant won't...

    issue Disease or Calcium Deficiency??

Lots of people dump calcium into their plants, and think that it cured the problem, when it's simply coincident with normal resumption of nutrient uptake. In truth, calcium is one of the least mobile of nutrients, and doesn't really go away easily.

    issue Disease or Calcium Deficiency??

Rain doesn't lead to calcium deficiency.  It leads to disruption of nutrient uptake.  ALL nutrients.  Failing to understand this, can at worst, lead to over-feeding, and at best, wasting money dumping stuff in unnecessarily. . There's a few things that can cause that.  It could be...

    using vitamin tablets on plants

Why do we always want to add extra "stuff" to our plants? . Follow convention, and you'll get expected results.  Deviate, and you get what you get.  There is no known benefit to adding such things.  If your plants are growing well, resist the urge to do "more better-er".  If they're not, find...

    Anyone used this neem

Any 100% cold pressed that's an authentic product, will work.     I've tried to get away from even soap and use more surfactants and wetting agents.  Aloe, coconut, and yucca based, all have worked well for me, with less leaf damage than soap.  And obviously, never use detergent.

container Using fresh pince bark in container mixture

I grow in composted pine bark all the time.  It's the best stuff I've ever used.  In fact, with my grow right now, I planted out around October, and I haven't even fertilized.  I've already had some pretty huge harvests.  Mind you, I'm in raised beds, and they're flush full with composted pine...

Any cellphone geeks in the room?

I seriously wish there was a "semi" smart phone out there.  Something that would do text and internet, but NO other apps.   I always buy refurbished, outdated, unlocked phones, just to get performance upgrades and storage, but I don't install apps. (or at least, as few as possible) Truthfully...

    "Karen" of the Year Award

Personally, I like this one better.  It's got everything - family member restraint and retreat, ethnic diversity, world class histronics...  . https://www.tmz.com/2020/07/21/measuring-tape-meltdown-tantrum-angry-karen-beach/

seeds The Simple Case Of The Seed Cases: A" Noobie" Question With A Little Bit Of Banter And Backstory For

Go all around the edges of the helmet with a pair of fingernail clippers, or one of those little manicure tools, that looks like a cross between a pair of electrical dykes, and some sort of surgical tool.  It's a pain in the ass to crunch, tug, whatever.  Even if you end up with a little slice...

misc What's everyone growing in 2021

Big Jim Heritage and Cumra Cherry are blasting for me right now.  BJH is absolutely dripping with poddage. . . . . . Sugar Rush Peach is making first pods: . . . The CCs are still spindly, but popping: .

Do any of you have to deal with Oxalis every season?

Yeah, that's not really a problem.  I'm actually jealous that you get that larger leaf variety.  There's a few that are even larger.  Great, great, groundcover.  And as CF stated, it really doesn't outcompete your main plants. . It might not be the advice that you wanted to hear, but if I had it...

tutorial Beginner's guide to AACT/Compost Tea

I don't disagree, but those things are either purchased or seasonally available for me.  And I'd still recommend a compost tea as an early season innoculant.  Just to give things a boost, without going all fertilizer dopey.

container What size containers do you use?

Yeah, the 'gallon' listing is a bit of a misnomer...  It's actually "number 5" nursery pot.  Somehow, people took "gallon" and ran with it.  I believe that it might have supposed to have made sense, at some point in time...  But now, ya jest gotta know. . And to make matters worse...  There is...

container What size containers do you use?

So many factors ride on what size container to use. . Simple thing to consider: how much oxygen do you have at the root zone? . Go from there. . What impacts oxygen at the roots?  Temp, humidity, media, watering.  That's a starter.  Knowing your conditions goes a long way towards helping find...

    tutorial The Pest Guide

You're welcome, but do note that I've started to recommend looking into alternatives to the soap.  Why, you may ask?  Well, it has a very high pH - around 11, on average.  I was finding that the hotter and more humid that my weather was, the more detrimental that was proving to be.  I killed a...

    tutorial The Pest Guide

At any rate, the contrary advice (i.e., don't use detergent at all, and soaps with caution/suspicion) is out there, for anyone who is either willing to hear it, or curious enough to test it out. . I mean, we've known for 70 years that cigarette smoking kills people, either directly, or through...
