I'm a simple and lazy cook:   Step 1 - Hide the smoke detector in a drawer.   Step 2 - Open a window.   Step 3 - Dump a lot of butter into a frying pan and turn up the gas flame as high as it goes.   Step 4 - As soon as the butter melts, put the fish in and leave for a predetermined time.  From...

I can’t properly review the cooler, as I added ice each night. Here is the story:   The thing holds between 7-8 bags (seven to eight pounds) of ice.   After the first catch, I added too much ice before putting the vacuum-sealed bags in. I wasn’t comfortable with the amount of ice that I was able...

The Chain Pickerel has a special place in my heart, as it was my first catch.   My recent catch provided dinner.   Pickerel aren’t popular to keep because their bony structure makes the fish a pain to fillet. I just gut them and eat around the bone. I fried these for around seven minutes a side...

Fish were literally jumping out of the water around my boat all day.  A combination of their lack of appetite and my lack of technique was responsible for my disappointing singular catch.  At least I get to take home another prized Pickerel.

Tough conditions on the lake: I fished in a steady rain all day. Still beats working.              Normally this 14-inch Largemouth bass would have been a keeper, but Bass are strictly catch-and-release in the private lake, so it got to live another day.

This is the lake where I’ve been fishing all day.  The scenery as well as the physical characteristics of the water changes throughout the seasons.  This is the most beautiful time of the year.     Another Pickerel and three Pumpkinseed sunfish.  I finally put a lure to use.  I caught the...

I have two huge tackle boxes filled with hundreds of dollars’ worth of lures, yet I catch these with worms.   The skinny one is a Pickerel which is what I’m mainly targeting. The other is a Yellow perch. Both are delicious!   I'll post a review of my cooler at the end of the week.  For now, the...

Ty,   I ended up getting this:   https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000DH4LT/   Great price and more than enough capacity.  Igloo claims 5 days of Ice retention, as opposed to Coleman's 3 day claim for this one, but Igloo models that I looked at didn't have a drainage hole, and I don't mind...

Hitting the lakes next Saturday morning and will be home by Wednesday Afternoon.  Expected to come home with up to 30 panfish - most small.  Maybe a few footlong Yellow Perch.   This looks like an incredible deal, but a bit overkill for my needs:  ...

    WTF

The Nesco manuals are full of  crap.  I have this model:   https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FFVJ3C/   I dry Peppers at 95f and it takes a least 4 days.

Ty,   I seem to remember that the parent plant also took forever to grow.  I hope the weather holds out in the PNW. :)

    Dragon49's 2019 Grow Log

My oldest seeds are either from either 2007 or 2008.  I'm less worried about germination, now that I learned the peroxide/water soak trick.  I also found this online, and am thinking about buying it:   https://monstergardens.com/super-seed-soak-kit.html   I called the company and really liked...

    Dragon49's 2019 Grow Log

I am saddened to report that my Pepper plant has passed away.     In The Botany of Desire, Michael Pollan illustrated how plants have evolved to satisfy humankind’s most basic needs, such as food and attractive surroundings.  We finalize the symbiosis by helping the plants reproduce.  I was...

    Dragon49's 2019 Grow Log

I can't imagine I'm stunting the growth by giving the roots more room than they could possibly fill.  Perhaps there is some harm as maye the soil will not properly pack around the roots.  In any event, I'm not at the garden much and I'm not bothering family members to attend to it all, except to...

    Dragon49's 2019 Grow Log

I wish this damn thing would either grow or die, but it just tortures me in limbo!  I have a feeling that at the end of the season it will remain small and without pods, and I’ll have the dilemma of either having to kill it, or to take it home and be responsible for it.

    Dragon49's 2019 Grow Log

I'll surely be purchasing some pods this season. Everybody is having hard times due to the weather.  I just got an email newsletter from the GhostPepper Store, informing me that this year's production will only be 40% of normal output.   Sunlight, rain, and well water are free, so the fruitless...

Wishful thinking!   What are the odds on getting pods this season - something like 500 -1?

    Dragon49's 2019 Grow Log

The plant isn’t dead yet, but still isn’t growing at all.  At this point, I think she has some psychological issues that’s stunting her growth.  For the last two weeks, the plant has had nutrient rich soil with good drainage and lots of sun, but no progress at all.  WTF!!
