    Transplant Setup

Nice work station you have there. I'm starting to feel the effects of repetitive stress and strain on the body. I wish through the years I had worked smarter like you are doing. I guess young and dumb is forgivable, just paying for it now. :)

organic Epsom salts - are they safe for organics systems

I think small amounts applied frequently would be better than large doses. Another source for magnesium is lime stone. It is also a source of calcium. My understanding is that epsom salt will provide magnesium right away while the lime will be not immediately available for your plants to use.

Nice garden! Really like the irrigation system. I've been thinking about something similar. What size drill did you use for the holes in the PVC?

    Tonly's 2011 grow log

That was their first trip outdoors. The 2nd year plants seem pretty sturdy even though all the growth has happened in the greenhouse. I hope they don't need too much hardening off. It's quite a bit of work moving them. I don't collect coins but, I have had that one since I was 4 years old. I...

    seeds Germination observations

I have had some seeds germinate very quickly and others in the same environment go slowly or not at all. I've seen others post similar comments so, I know I'm not alone in this. I have a heat mat set up in the house to provide a fairly steady heat of about 83F to 87F. Most times the seeds...

Sean, the fatalis are hit and miss on heat but the flavor has been really nice lately. Did you get a chance to try the cumari ou passarinho? I had one the other night that was screamin' hot :mouthonfire: . The ones I picked today were the biggest pods so far since last summer.

    Tonly's 2011 grow log

The weather started out partly cloudy this morning so I decided to put the plants outside for awhile. By the time I got them all out it had become overcast and really windy. They didn't stay out too long. Placed the overwinter plants beside their future permanent home. I may need help...

    raised-bed Raised Beds

The tall posts are 2" pvc conduit. There are 2 wires running the length of the bed on top and 2 down low. Each plant has a string to climb that is tied between these wires. This works just good enough that I haven't redesigned it. I also have used 4'X16' cattle panels for vertical support...

    raised-bed Raised Beds

Sounds like a good plan to me. It might be cheaper to use 2X6's and stack them instead of 2X12's. 2X12's can be pricey here especially in longer lengths. I have 4' wide beds with 3' aisles between them. That 3' looks like a lot of wasted space when the beds are empty but gets pretty crowded...

    CATS - AARRRGHHHH

Animal control won't do anything about cats here. If they are on my property, I must assume they are wild and I trap them (alive) and haul them out to the "wild" to be released. If I shoot them I could be charged with animal cruelty.

    Yaargh's 5gal DWC grow log

Since you have more than one, I think you should go ahead and taste one while orange. Whether the seeds were crossed or not, they are beautiful plants and pods and they look like they will be very hot.

It looks even better in person. It is completely red right now. I'll let it ripen a bit more before I pick it. That plant had some really wicked pods on it last summer. Can't wait to see what it does in year #2.

    Sugar Snap Peas

If they look good after 4 days I bet all will be well. I planted 2 72 cell trays today. My outdoor soil temps are still cold as today is the first day in a while that there is not any snow on the ground. This should get me a nice headstart too if they transplant well.

    Sugar Snap Peas

Mike, I'm curious how these are doing for you. I have always direct seeded sugar snaps but this thread got me inspired to try starting some to transplant. Have you grown them like this before?

    Growing out of season

I've been eating fresh peppers here all winter from plants I cut back and dug out of the garden. With your climate it should be no problem at all. Probably the biggest challenge will be keeping the daytime high temps from getting too high. BTW :welcome: to THP

    Tonly's 2011 grow log

Siliman, I mix up my soils about the same way I cook. I don't really follow a recipe and it is different every time. :) The seed starting mix I'm using this year is mostly peat moss with some perlite and vermiculite mixed in. I use straight vermiculite to cover the seeds. I mix up 40 lbs...
