    TXCG 2016

Picked up a neat little 15x zoom macro lens that clips on to my phone so took it out to the garden to try it out.   Found this tiny jumping spider. For size reference he is sitting on a 1/4" diameter plant stake. With just my eyes I couldn't even really tell it was a spider.     While I was...

    The thread of Creepy Crawlies

Got a pretty neat 15x zoom clip on macro lens for my phone. This little jumping spider was extremely tiny, I could barely tell it was a spider without the camera. For scale he is sitting on a 1/4" diameter plant stake.             Little guy snagged him some dinner

    TXCG 2016

Spotted a few aphids and thrips this week & seeing just tiny bit of damage on emerging leaves so Friday evening I sprayed some spinosad & azamax. This year I'm trying to actually stay ahead of the bugs instead of waiting til there is a problem and fighting an uphill battle. Whatever had been...

    Devv's 2015 - 16, Life is good!

Looking great Devv. Also that is an awesome picture of that horny toad! I haven't seen one of those in this area since I was a kid although I saw a few out in West Texas near Ft. Stockton back around 2006 or so. We have those Texas spiny lizards all over the place around here though, I see em...

    Extremely large leaves

When I had my nutrient PPM up too high on my hydro system I was getting gigantic dark green leaves on my chinenses but all the flowers were aborting. Not saying that's what is going on with your plants but very dark green foliage with huge leaves might point to excess nitrogen which can inhibit...

    Calamari Kid's LED Krakty Grow

That looks like an awesome light, looking forward to seeing it put to good use. And I agree, messing about with AC voltage if you don't have the knowledge to do it safely is generally a bad idea. DIY might save a few bucks but unless you are confident you can do it properly then buying a proper...

Queequeg grows stuff, and fixes junk.

Cultured marble is made from marble powder mixed that is cast using molds. Natural marble would be like marble cut from a solid slab of rock like you'd see a sculpture or something made out of.    The way we made cultured marble was you would take a mold, apply some mold release to it so you...

Queequeg grows stuff, and fixes junk.

All this talk about marble is giving me flashbacks when I used to work in a cultured marble shop making bathroom vanities & bathtubs. Worst damn job I ever had.    You're using natural marble though right?

Our facilities people at work installed a water tap right next to our raised bed. Old one was 200 ft away across the parking lot. I owe somebody a 6 pack.

    TXCG 2016

Our facilities people at work went above and beyond what was necessary to get our water fixed at the garden plot & actually installed a connection right in the garden! Our old connection was 200 feet away at the other end of the parking lot. I'm going to have to figure out who was responsible...

Newbie - Capsicum with yellow stems

Hey Tex it's hard to say without seeing the plant but if the yellow parts are looking kind of necrotic it would be a good idea to trim off the dead parts. Any chance you can take a picture and upload it?   Also hate to hear about the loss of all your tepins. I wouldn't give up on em just yet...

    Flowers already?

Most plants start setting flowers as soon as the trunk starts branching and forming a canopy since flowers form at the nodes. Usually a good idea to pinch off the early flowers til plants get a bit bigger.

    Calamari Kid's LED Krakty Grow

Kratky is an interesting method but I was under the impression it works best for short term non-fruiting crops. Does it work well for plants like peppers that take several months to mature? Also what kind of LED light you getting?   Good luck with your season!

    TXCG 2016

Went out and picked up some pH down, pH meter calibration kit & some coco wet wetting agent. In the past I always just used a few drops of mild soap as a wetting agent but the guy at the hydro store sold me on this and it was only $6 so I figured why not. Picked all that up with the intention of...

    TXCG 2016

Nope, but not very far away from ACC.     Luckily the deer around here don't seem quite that motivated. Never had issue with them when we had a fence put up made out of the same material as this cage.

    TXCG 2016

Oh yeah forgot to post this pic. This is why I had to build the net cage:      Kinda hard to see but there are 2 whitetail deer in that pic. There was actually a herd of 5 of them but 3 are hiding. I see them by the pond every day when I leave work.

    TXCG 2016

Thanks everybody. Here's a slightly better pic as promised + a list of what is what.   Each bed has 2 identical rows with  2 plants of each variety except the Texas Chiltepins which I have 4 of.   Listed front to back:   Left bed: Fatalii, Devil's Tongue, Datil, Sweet Datil, Chupetinho, Cumari  ...

    TXCG 2016

Built a deer resistant net cage out of 1 1/2" PVC pipe and rigged up a drip irrigation system with soaker hose. Not sure how well its gonna work but hopefully it will save me a bit of pain watering. Theoretically rated at 1/2 to 1 gal per foot of hose per hour, each hose piece is about 16'-ish...
