water High pH (9.6) tap water for irrigating raised bed. Any ideas?

So here in Austin our the pH out of the tap is 9.6 since we get our water out of a limestone aquifer. The first time I measured it I thought my pH meter was broken but the water quality report verifies it:       So the problem I have here is at my garden I don't really have access to power so I...

chinense Shelf Life of Orange Habaneros? Shelf Life of other Peppers?

Not sure exactly how long but if you don't want to use them immediately peppers freeze well. The texture does change a bit when they are frozen and defrosted but this isn't an issue if you plan on drying them for powder or making them into sauce. I've had frozen ones still be fine after a good...

Artificial light for entire growth cycle?

You can't really beat HID lights like high pressure sodium or metal halide for growing fruiting plants indoors. LEDs are slowly getting better and cheaper but in order to get similar results to an HID light you would need to spend way more money. HIDs put out a decent bit of heat so you will...

chinense Jigsaw (trinidad moruga scorpion X ? )

The breeder runs Fatalii Gourmet though so I don't think that's a safe bet. He also has the "Fatalii Gourmet Naga Morich" which is just an improved Naga with no Fatalii genetics.

I need a new internet provider

Just have google fiber threaten to come to your town and watch all the other crappy ISPs suddenly get competitive lol. I had 20/2 from time warner for like $70 a month a couple years ago then google fiber got announced and somehow TWC magically found all this spare bandwidth and now I get 300/20...

Does the root stock & the plant you are planning on grafting to it need to be roughly the same diameter or something? I've always found the idea of grafting interesting but never had anything to try it with.

    Information Overload!

I don't remember the exact ratio I used but I think it was something like 20-30% perlite but I was using Promix BX not Promix HP. Promix HP is "high porosity" and already has a good deal of perlite in it I believe so you may not need to add any to that.  The more perlite you add the faster it...

    Information Overload!

Last time I grew in containers with promix + perlite I tried having 2 plants of the same variety with 1 in a 5 gal bucket and the other in a 10-15 gal root pot & the biggest difference I saw was in how frequently I had to water the plant. I expected there to be a bigger difference in plant size...

    Slade's 2016 Texas Grow

Just went back and read through your last year's log, that fertilizer injection system you built is awesome. Looking forward to seeing how it works for you over the course of this year's grow. Good luck in 2016!

    Who Tops Their Peppers?

I should have said "more or less identical in shape" but the un-topped one was a bit bigger overall due to no setback & also from having a larger pot. I just meant that at a glance you couldn't tell which one was topped since both were super bushy and neither were just tall & tree-like.   I...

    coffee-tea Coffee

So just to make sure I'm following here you use something like this:   http://www.amazon.com/iSi-Cream-Professional-Whipper-2416/dp/B0001MRZWI   And do you use a nitrous oxide (N2O) cartridge just like you would use for whipped cream or do they have pure N2 cartridges available?   Might have...

    TXCG 2016

Talked my dad into driving his truck down here March 5th so I can go pick up a metric crapload of compost at Natural Gardener nursery way down south of Austin. Thinking about renting a small rototiller that day too to speed this process up a bit since I'll have a good 1.5-2 cu yards of compost...

    Tips and suggestions please!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PYt0SDnrBE     I don't live in Phoenix but it does get well into the 100s here in Texas too and you are right to assume that there are basically two seasons. Most plants will produce a few pods early on & then stop producing in mid summer when temps get high then...
