    synclinorium's 2012 Grow Log

Yep... this time of year it's great 'cause the peaches are in season, but with how easy it is to find them canned I've made fall batches too. It tastes like the 7Pods are a lot fruiter than the Datils I've been using, so I'll see how that affects it. Last time was the first chance I had to use...

breeding meanest chile relleno ever "poblano-scorpian cross"

It definitely is possible. One of my Scorpions looks like it was crossed with an annum of some sort. I wouldn't put much stock in early pod shapes though. The shapes can be all over the place until the plant is a bit older. My first couple Big Jims looked similar.

I just use a recipe I found trudging through the internet... I posted a thread about it at one point. I use it pretty much exclusively as a chicken marinade, but it goes fine on popcorn too. It all goes in a blender and into the fridge, don't know how long it keeps but I usually use it fast...

    synclinorium's 2012 Grow Log

I'll find out in a bit... not that I want to voluntarily try a superhot but I'll have a little sliver. I have enough for a batch of sauce, here's the odd duck amongst the rest... definitely going to red. It doesn't look friendly. (50 cent piece for scale)

    synclinorium's 2012 Grow Log

I bought the seeds from Judy (pepperlover.com). Just goes to show, even with the pros you can run into crosses/oddbballs sometimes...

Well, the other Yellow Brain Strain is not yellow... more of a safety orange/creamsicle color right now. I'll leave it on for a bit to see if it gets darker or goes to red.

The MOST GOD AWFUL PEPPER EVER!!!! lol

Taste is subjective... personally, I don't like orange Habs. They've never tasted soapy to me, but something about them makes me gag. Same goes for most chinenses, at least fresh. I still grow them because I think they're fine in a dish or a sauce. I think some chileheads are like wine-os, they...

    When plants droop

My chinense all droop in the middle of the day... probably because they tend to have larger leaves and need correspondingly large amounts of water to maintain turgor pressure. I water them in the morning, they usually start perking back up again by 8 at night. Not much you can do in this heat...

    synclinorium's 2012 Grow Log

Yeah, I overwintered a couple of the plants. They produced a bit earlier than my starts but they're all about the same size right now. I think I won't cut them back as much this year if I decide to overwinter them again. My other Brain Strain yellow might actually be ripening to yellow... it...

    synclinorium's 2012 Grow Log

I've been out of town and worried about the plants, but with a bit of daily watering they seem to be doing alright... this heat has been murder all around. We need rain, the lawn is crunchy now. Anyway, some pics: Of all things, my Bell peppers are loving this weather. They are the biggest...

    Butch T?

My Scorpion is starting to pod up, and the pods look a bit wonky. I know they can have a variety of shapes, but this seems a bit outside of the normal realm of variation... So I ask: cross, wonky Scorpion, or another variety altogether? Unfortunately I have no information on the origin of...

That they are... Tonight I decided to go for some Aji de Gallina to use up the rest of the Aji Amarillo paste in the fridge. Hopefully this year I'll have some fresh peppers to use...

Figured I'd do a few more pod shots. The Cumari are certainly as prolific as they say... A not-so-brainy Brain Straw Yellow Limon pods are starting to light up Peeking under the covers of White Hab Trinidad Scorpion cross number 1

The few Rocotos that are on my plants have already decided it's harvest time. Not enough to do much with them, so I'll probably just toss them in some fried veggies later... they're little guys.

Here's the first Bhut pod... it's just a baby, but it already looks mean... And an Aji Amarillo pod.

    harvesting harvesting ja lap no's...

Red is better in my opinion, they just spoil faster. If I harvest them green I wait until they're nice and plump and I see a bit of corking.

    synclinorium's 2012 Grow Log

I rarely bother to isolate; most people don't bother and I have no expectations for seeds I get through trades; if I'm set on having true varieties I go through reputable sellers (the best sellers are in the business for the joy it of it, but we should still support them in their efforts... I...

    synclinorium's 2012 Grow Log

That's what I get for buying seedlings instead of starting them myself... I also got a Bhut from the same people, which seems to be true; I haven't posted any photos of it yet but the first pod looks nice and gnarly. They listed the Bhut seed came from NMSU, but the container didn't say where...

I'm scratching my head at the Butch Ts. I know the pod shapes can be variable on them, but these look nothing like the photos I've seen. I'm wondering if it was crossed with another super... if so, this would be the second year in a row my Butch Ts are crosses. Haha. Nature is conspiring against...

    synclinorium's 2012 Grow Log

I'm excited about these Brain Strain Yellows. A few have decided to have stingers... And just to spite me, my bell peppers have ballooned in size. This may be the first year I actually get full-sized pods off the plants...
