    Tomatillos

Man I'm jealous, my tomatillos don't have any fruit on them yet... they're a lot smaller than some of your guys' plants, so I guess I'll just wait for now... Didn't realize how much they bush out so I tried to rig them up with a Florida weave like my tomatoes, I'll probably need to do something...

what kind of insects are these and are they dangerous to my plants?

My experience with lady bugs is that as long as you have them in the area, they will eventually find the aphids and eradicate them on their own. You can help them along by trying to move them onto the problem plants if you want, but the number of aphids in that photo is nothing to worry about...

    (chil)tepin phyllotaxy

Tepins seem to branch a bit later in their growth, and they can get quite tall before they'll bush out. If you look at them from above, when they're mature they kind of resemble a bicycle wheel... I've never tried pinching them, I just let them do their thing... maybe someone else can weigh in...

    Wiri Wiri

Figured I'd do a brief little update on these guys. I tried a couple the other day and I have to agree with you. I can't quite place what is different about them, but they have a subtly unique flavor unlike any other chinense I've tried, in a good way. Definitely a variety I will be growing in...

Making a mammal repellent since something is eating my zucchini and beans... do I just stick peppers in a spray bottle and go at it?

All purpose miracle gro, ever use it?

I'm not saying bias with regard to a particular method, I'm just saying that once you pick your application rates, you need to be consistent. Since there is an inclination to want your plants to succeed and you see that a method is doing harm, there is a tendency to want to (naturally) adjust...

All purpose miracle gro, ever use it?

Small-scale comparisons are very poor indicators of the reliability of a given method. You can do a simple layman's test by strictly adhering to the package's recommended dosage rate for both the MG and organic (and organic is kind of ambiguous, you'd need to just pick something and stick with...

Makes sense. French is similar. I'll be trying my hand at a few crosses for next year, or whenever I get around to growing them. I have more fun with cross-species hybrids, so that's the plan... some ideas: Mini Mini x Wiri Wiri Bolivian Small Red x 7Pot Big Jim x Aji Amarillo Wiri Wiri x...

Ah man, you mean I've been pronouncing it right all along? Here I've been trying to correct myself... My housemate wanted me to do bells in spite of my protests. I never get much off them. Such a waste of space. Either the bugs eat them first or they get sunburnt all to heck. Thanks for the...

Decided to do a grow video while wandering around the garden. I will pronounce the Tepin correctly eventually. Tay-peen. TAY-PEEN. Oh well. I apologize for any other quirky pronunciations.

video Pepper Video Walkarounds, Part II - Aji Omnicolor

I like the idea. This would be the place to discuss this obviously, but I've seen other plant forums that have separate sub-forums broken down by species and discussion threads for each of the various varieties, which I think is an awesome idea. Shopping for seeds doesn't really tell you much...

Bhut Jolokias - slow growing or just not the right mix?

Pics would be helpful. For what it's worth, my Bhut isn't nearly as vigorous as the Scorpion or the Yellow 7.

All purpose miracle gro, ever use it?

I also like the Miracle Grow Tomato Food for my in-ground plants, for the same reasons listed. Normally I use fish ferts for my plants in pots because it's a little more difficult for animals to dig around them as happens with the in-ground plants. The only thing to watch is that I don't think...

Pepper species combinations that go good?

What Trippa said. Personally, I like using Tepins/Pequins as an all-purpose spice pepper that goes on pretty much anything. Haven't tried the Kona before so you'll just need to taste and see. You could also try infusing oils/alcohol with peppers. I'm partial to tequila for peppers, but vodka...

    overwintering Overwintering pot size

Depends on how heavily you cut it back. I had anywhere from 3.5 inch pots (cut back to a stump and a small root ball) up to 9 inch pots (kept most of the major branches intact and pruned the root ball to size). Basically whatever your setup allows for.

Here's a shout-out to the little guys... I am very curious about the origins of the Amish Bush Judy sells. At first glance, it looks similar to my Prik Ki Nu. I'll have to do a taste test at some point. Prik Ki Nu (Hom?) Amish Bush Most prolific chacoense... don't know what set this guy...

feeding cal mag if plants dont need it

A little bit of puckering isn't anything to worry about, but if the new growth is really wrinkled or distorted that's when I usually hit them with the Cal-Mag, keeping in mind that calcium can easily be locked out due to changes in soil pH, so you might have plenty of calcium in your soil and...
