    Seed Stock Purity

I'm curious if anyone here has kept records on how often you get crosses when growing different varieties in close proximity to one another. Do you get crosses more often than not, or less? I'm curious because I've harvested seeds from some plants that I allowed to open pollinate last year.

    overwintering Winter Lighting Qs???

I'm growing 20-some plants this summer in 1 gallon containers with the intention to winter for production next summer. I don't have enough window space to get them all enough light. What type of lighting should I go with? I'd almost prefer to go LED so any input on pros/cons would be awesome!  ...

Busy week/weekend. Hopefully I can update with some photos Sunday-ish.    I have more 7 pots coming up than I know what to do with!

    My first big container garden

Two more varieties of Habanero came up this morning. I routed through the cells that contained Devil's Tongue (yellow)... It appears they aren't going to do anything for me.

If you really want to see a half inch chute that is indistinguishable from any other pepper I suppose I could do that.

    My first big container garden

I watched a video last year on long term seed storage, but I cant seem to find it anywhere. It basically said that if you dry the seeds down and store them with a desiccant, in a glass jar, in  a freezer, that they will keep for over a decade.

    My first big container garden

Add Chocolate Trinidad Scorpion and Carolina Reaper to the list! It's only day 7!   I'll have a fair number of plants to find homes for if thing keep up. A few are spoken for locally, but I'd be happy to send them out (free) if shipping is paid by recipient. I'm also open to trades for any...

    My first big container garden

Just checked the seed tray again. Add 7 Pot Douglah and Fatalii (the orange strain from Seed Savers Exchange) to the list. I don't know any backstory on this strain of Fatalii so if anyone has any history on that one I'd appreciate it!

    My first big container garden

I'm fairly new to this forum and it seems like doing a glog is a good way to get some input as well as share my techniques and experiences, limited as they may be.   I started some seeds late this year. Really late. 6 days ago late. I already have germination on 5 varieties. Yucatan White...

    vendor Puckerbuttpeppercompany.com

I've had good experiences with these guys every time I've ordered from them. Twice for sauces, and once for seeds. I got two free packets of Carolina Reaper seeds with my seed order! Big thank you to Ed and the crew!

    vendor Refining fire chiles

My six (seven, freebie) plants from Jim came yesterday. All in very good shape minus the standard few leaves lots in transit. Freebie was a Jay's Peach Ghost Scorpion! I'd buy again.

    Off limit varieties???

Bummer about the low count. I'm just starting some now myself. I'm going to prune off any buds that show up to keep them growing until I bring them inside in the fall. That way I'll have decent size grow-outs to put out next spring.

    Off limit varieties???

I purchased Carolina Reaper seeds from PuckerButt as well. I ordered one packet of those seeds, and 3 other varieties. I got the four packets I ordered AND 2 extra packets of Carolina Reaper seeds! Ed seems like a good guy and his business practices (from what I've seen) reflect that. I also...

    Off limit varieties???

Well, good. I'm glad to see the craziness that surrounds ornamental (landscape type) plants doesn't cross into the garden too much.  To the edit, I have done that, but with Black Beauty Eggplant. A grower that sells at the local farmers market only grew that one variety last year.   This is what...

    Off limit varieties???

Is it mostly them just trying to hold the market on them then? I wouldn't want to use the Red Savina anyway (just a personal taste thing) but I like the idea of playing with some of the super hots.

    Off limit varieties???

I plan on breeding some peppers this summer and I'm curious how many can't freely be used. I know that the Carolina Reaper and Red Savina are on that list. Are there others?

Thanks everybody! I'll read up on that and probably browse through it again when it comes time to get it done!

breeding I need information on breeding peppers!!!!

I'm growing several varieties of C. chinense this year and aside from harvesting viable, true to type/variety seed from all the individual ones (which I know how to do) I grow I would like to make some crosses. Is there a generally accepted way to do this? Can someone explain in depth for me...
