My first big container garden

I'm fairly new to this forum and it seems like doing a glog is a good way to get some input as well as share my techniques and experiences, limited as they may be.
 
I started some seeds late this year. Really late. 6 days ago late. I already have germination on 5 varieties. Yucatan White Habanero, Congo Brown Habanero, 7 Pod Primo, Bhut Jolokia, and Trinidad Scorpion "Butch T"! I'm starting them in a south window in a mix of 3 parts Ocean Forest, 1 part perlite, and 1 part coco fiber. It seems to be working fine.



I also have some plants that I ordered from Refining Fire (Jim Duffy and his crew, I'm sure he's well known here). Those are all listed in my grow list in my profile. I'm doing a shortish hardening period that started with being outside for 5 hours and increasing by about an hour each day. On day 10 they will be transplanted to their semi-permanent containers.

Man, I wish I had such rapid germination.

Mine are such slugs.

That's a great list, I haven't seen refining fire on thp but it's all over YouTube pepper tests.

I too got some plants because I started a bit over a week ago, but I just got them local, Im sure Jim's plants are much cooler :)

Good luck with your grow, please post some pictures when things are presentable :)
 
Just checked the seed tray again. Add 7 Pot Douglah and Fatalii (the orange strain from Seed Savers Exchange) to the list. I don't know any backstory on this strain of Fatalii so if anyone has any history on that one I'd appreciate it!
 
Add Chocolate Trinidad Scorpion and Carolina Reaper to the list! It's only day 7!
 
I'll have a fair number of plants to find homes for if thing keep up. A few are spoken for locally, but I'd be happy to send them out (free) if shipping is paid by recipient. I'm also open to trades for any chinense seed that I don't already have.
 
Certainly better late than never. I've been wanting to try the reapers for a bit now and will check my seed stock for any chinense and get back to you. I used to have a bunch, but I cleaned out my stash for fear of the seeds getting old.

well kept seeds are viable for many years, I just germinated seeds from 2008 and 2010 this year, and they are good sturdy healthy plants!

That's true. Just don't want to raise expectations and then disappoint folks with old seeds.

I watched a video last year on long term seed storage, but I cant seem to find it anywhere. It basically said that if you dry the seeds down and store them with a desiccant, in a glass jar, in  a freezer, that they will keep for over a decade.
 
Two more varieties of Habanero came up this morning. I routed through the cells that contained Devil's Tongue (yellow)... It appears they aren't going to do anything for me.  :rolleyes:
 
Busy week/weekend. Hopefully I can update with some photos Sunday-ish. 
 
I have more 7 pots coming up than I know what to do with!
 
My yucatan white hab (that I had shipped in a couple weeks ago) stressed bad enough that it dropped all of its leaves. but it is growing more where you expect to see them if you topped the plant. I guess that's ok as long as it bounces back. I have backups too! Some of the seedlings are starting to develop their first true leaves.
 
Slowly but surely these seedlings are growing true leaves! The plants I ordered from Refining Fire are doing great with the exception of the Yucutan White Habanero. This last cold snap did it in (high 50s).
