I still think there's a fertility issue.. Out of two 4 foot high plants, they have probably had 200 flowers each, I've had the ones I crossed pod up, and only about 5 others naturally.. As peppers are part of the nightshade family it has been suggested that in unripe fruits of this family (tomato's - peppers etc) there is believed to be some that may contain traices of toxin etc. But this is more in relation to the flowers and buds etc that I wouldn't recommend eating for any...

Update:  The plant has started fertilising its own pods... It must be a maturity thing or something.. but the plant has begun fertilising its own pods finally... Have a dozen or so self fertilised pods... thank god =) Can't wait to see what pops

  I tried a lot of the different bagged mixes from Bunnings.  I still found the Premium Miracle Grow the best bagged product.. If the weathers hot and your using pots put some good pine bark mulch on top or sugar cane mulch to help stop water evaporation...

I use perlite early on with straight premium potty mix in the seedling to first small pot but in larger pots I don't bother.. but I find that in Vic the weather is so extreme that having too much drainage or too much water retaining is a deadly idea.. I find the mushroom compost adds enough...
