I have a question for all of you who ferment. I make Kimchi all the time. I learned how to do it from my mother when I was pretty young. Is there a reason I can't use the same process on peppers? While the fermenting information is great, it seems very complicated for a simple process that...
I've been throwing Kelp and Tomato Tone at them pretty regularly. I hope that's enough for now. I might do some other amendment as I watch the leaves. I just look at the leaves and can usually go from there (I hope).
We've had daily rains here in Central Florida. Usually of the torrential downpour nature. My concern is that my plants are getting over watered. Does anyone have any suggestions to combat this? My plants are in pots or large raised beds (not on the ground) but there is no way I can bring all of...
I'm thinking of growing some Asian Pear trees. I was wondering if anyone had any experiece with them in the Central Florida area or any area that isn't a cold climate? I hear that our cold days aren't such a big deal but I want to make sure before I plant some trees that wont produce fruit. :)
Hi (waving)
If you're interested in growing anything hotter let me know. I'm always willing to give out some of my seeds to someone who wants to grow something hotter. Some of my plants don't have ripe pods yet but take a look at my list. I'm also starting a lot of other varieties so let me...

That sucks. Pretty much the same thing here but blown over. I'm lucky nothing actually snapped. The storms must have been bad if it's just not me. Grrr.
Thanks for all the responses.
To be more specific I have raised beds that are very large containers that equal out in length to a 2x4 bed. These guys were directly sown into the bed and have done just fine with the wind/storms this whole year. I think I will try to put up a wind barrier if I...
We had some sort of Tornado today (or Florida rain storm) and for the first time ever some of my pepper plants fell. They weren't my hots but I anticipate as they get older this will also be a problem.
What I use now is jute and some sticks that I have (bamboo or green ones I used for...
I freeze my seeds. I dehydrate my food so I take the dried pepper seeds and shove them in bags then into a large ziplock bag and in the freezer they go.
Yeah, my peppers are doing MUCH better with the shade. They were doing 'eh' at first but growing. I put shade up and BAM they've taken off like gangbusters. :)
Future,
I'm in zone 9b (Central Florida). Without shade the plants will usually get about 10 hours of direct sunlight a day. Right now it's in the mid to low 90's but with the humidity it feels closer to 100. In our area of Florida in the morning it will be 83 and 60% humidity at 3am...
Here in Central Florida the sun will scorch them if you don't put up shade. It's been in the 90's with 70% humidity and the plants just cannot take it. I start my seeds outside so there is not hardening off issue for me. Just depends on how much sun you get combined with the heat.
It repels them. They don't like the feel of it. I have slugs everywhere around here (humid) but not a one next to my plants and all I use is coffee grounds. Diatomaceous earth will also work. Salt will kill them outright. I'm trying to stay as organic as possible but I'm sure there are other...
