    fertilizer Fertilizer Help

That depends how much of it you use of course! If you have a TDS (ppm) or eC (uS) meter, you can control how many nutrients are dissolved in the water you are feeding them. Probably best to not exceed 500 ppm at this time.

On the apple juice thing: arsenic based pesticides have been banned since the 70's so always buy US-made juice. Nonetheless, kids drink WAY too much juice (and soda) - we need to teach them to drink more water (Preferably R/O water)

That is so nasty. It amazes me that even with all the brutal pesticides they use in orange production (Kocide, Agrimek, etc.) there is ANYTHING left on the oranges besides harmful chemicals

    tracks on a leaf?

I hate leafminers! Only had them once many years ago and it was on edibles so traditional systemics were out of the question (Imidacloprid is evil stuff). Only one thing I found that worked, but it took a couple weeks: Neem oil Mixed 2 Tbsp to a gallon of water with 1 Tbsp/gal of a safe soap...

omg what is this insect on my plant @___@

It's a young assassin bug (or "wheel bug"). He's about to turn into an adult in that picture and will turn brown. When young they look like little scorpions - kinda funny since he's on a Scorpion plant! They are very beneficial insects so be sure to not harm him - they walk around and DESTROY...

    Cell Phone Antics

More fun to slip a "battery operated marital aid" into their carry-on luggage before they have to go through TSA. "That's NOT mine" "Suuuuuuuuure it's not."

Just tried my first Moruga. I am literally dying. Boggles my mind that nature makes something like this - absolutely, mind-alteringly hot. Just took a small piece on the bottom chewed it twice and spat it out. Flavor followed by the feeling of sucking on a soldering iron. Typing with sweat...

    can Chillies prevent cancer?

Hormel actually believes that capsaicin INCREASES incidence of skin cancer (brought to you by the makers of Spam). Then again, they formed the Hormel institute to give "scientific basis" to pushing their products, just like the FDA approved Vioxx which killed over 10,000 people...

    The Strongest original chili?

I think the answer you're looking for is the chiltepin pepper - completely wild and they still collect them like morel mushrooms. Believe they're around 100,000 SHU

    lumen loss at different hights

Light intensity falls with the square of the distance. If you have 100,000 lumens at one foot, it's about 25,000 lumens at two feet and ~6,250 lumens at four feet. Just figure out how many lumens/ft-candles/etc your source puts out and this will give you a close approximation.

    BER on Tomatoes?

Here in PA, I sometimes get BER with heirloom plum tomatoes as a result of underwatering. Technically, it IS a calcium deficiency, but if you are growing in soil or with well water (or both), there is usually enough calcium present for the plant. Calcium does not mobilize well in tomatoes...

shopping Anyone familiar with this Product

I use a similar product for tick repellant when I'm in the woods. Works quite well for that. Not sure about it being an insecticide - more of a repellant. This is the product I use and they do market a use for keeping bugs out of the garden: http://cedaroils.com/

Lookin' Great in your garden!! I'm getting a bunch of Nards now (Red) and they are DELICIOUS! Thank you so much for those seeds. I've already saved the earliest and will be saving the seed form the best plant as well as cloning it for winter reproduction. Then I'll cross it to itself in...

    Onions and garlic

Just harvested 22 pounds of Alisa Craig onions I grew from seed this year. Took some for fresh eating for a couple dinners. The rest? I caramelized them, used some (like in place of tomato sauce on pizza - yum!) then froze the rest. Good way to use up onions if you have a lot. My purple are...
