  Temperature probe inserted into the soil.  You might be able to wrap it in a moist napkin and place it in a shot cup on top of the mat.

I'm using the Hydrofarm 48" x 21" mat and have no complaints with it.  I also use the Jump Start temperature controller.

It's my second year with the Mars Hydro too. I liked it a lot last year, so much so that I bought a second one. I got both of mine really cheap off eBay. FWIW, mine are older models that use 3w LEDs, the newer ones use 5w. Hydro One sucks, don't get me started! lol.

Thanks for the offer. I'll keep my fingers crossed in hopes that they will sell them again this year. You're probably right, but it's worth a shot.
