    Datil Pepper growers

Great flavor, good heat; I just like crushing them and smelling the inside of the pod. Versatile pepper. Hugely prolific. I grew 3 plants this year and had way too many peppers; gave a bunch away. With space being at a premium, I can do 1 or 2 datils, but I'll always grow it.

I remember the 1st comic I bought off the rack was Incredible Hulk, 35 cents, like 1979. Good stuff.

Rare Mandarin Duck In Central Park

That's cool. I walk in CP at lunch sometimes. I'll have to look for it next time. I was there last Thursday, but only saw a bunch of colorful tourists. Most I ever saw bird-wise was a kestrel eating a sparrow.

    Ginger

Officially pulled it all now. Grew very well and will start freezing some and I've given away a bunch. I love ginger, so I'll have plenty of uses for it over the winter.

What do you guys do with unripe pods?

I sometimes pull plants and hang them upside down in the house or garage. Some plants ripen well that way, others are very stubborn.

    Synchronized ripening

Staggered harvest can be a PITA, but I take what I can get. For example, I was getting a paprika pepper here and there during growing season, but now I'm getting 6 or more at a clip. It's the way they've always grown for me. But other peppers put out small bunches as well, so I can dry multiple...

    Ginger

Starting to pull up ginger for fresh use. In the next few weeks, I'll start pulling it up for storage. I plan to grate a bunch - small dollops - then freeze for the winter. The ginger turned out really nicely. I've had a cold so I haven't been able to get the full flavor of it.

    Ripe peppers rotting on inside?

I always thought it was related to too much rain/humidity; or those conditions made it easier for fungus/virus to do their work. For example, last year was much more mild and plenty wet; this year, while I've had a lot of rain, we've had heatwaves that have balanced it off. The result is I've...

[Sep 17] What are you working on this week?

Nuking the wax moth population in my garage. I was a bit too careless with the honey supers on my beehives, didn't freeze the frames, now I have Silence of the Lambs in my garage, with all the moths just hatching. If I open my garage door and start hearing this, I'm out:  ...
