These peppers look fantastic! Does anyone have seeds I could pilfer to start soon?

    sicman's "Third Turtle Ranch"

Looking great. What sort of temperatures do you find in your shade hut? My C. chinense are mostly coming up with sterile flowers, and I think it is from the heat.

    Repotting Bhuts.

Didn't want to say it, but ditto. Those peppers look smooth and shiny. My ghost has large leaves with rough and bumpy pods that taper to a point.

    Repotting Bhuts.

I repotted my bhut from 15 liter to 50 liter, and the one thing I learned is that it takes probably 3 weeks for the roots to really stretch out into their new home. Try not to overwater before then, otherwise the soil will stay very soggy which the pepper does not like.

    Caterpillars destroyed both jalapeños

Wow, brutal! They may have won the battle, but you can win the war. Don't give up on those plants.

Experimenting with a later start this year

My bhut is doing the exact same thing! Zero pods so far but it's the size of a darn VW beetle. Hopefully it survives to September/October when it begins to cool down again. Best of luck with the later start!

container Container grown peppers............ How big do they get????

Forgot to mention that both the bhut and the lemon drop were started in the middle and beginning of February respectively. So they are 4.5-5 months old. The lemon drop has not grown any larger since the beginning of June. The bhut continues to grow up and out.

container Container grown peppers............ How big do they get????

Depends on the plant. I have a bhut jolokia in a "15 gal" (aka 13.5ish actual gallons) nursery pot that is huge. I also have a few lemon drops in 5 gallon buckets which are about as big as they can get.

soil What soil mix is the best for root pouches/smart pots?

I would suggest looking into peroxide algae treatments if that stuff is giving you fits. Personally wouldn't use copper or chelates copper for food, but they are a cheaper option.

What is this white stuff on my pepper plants?

Are there small bumps or crystals on the underside of the leaves? I would say edema, or possibly salt build up. Do you spray the fertilizer on the leaves, or water it into the soil?

shade 30% Percent Shade Cloth Study

Yep, that study is what convinced me to get the shade cloth. In Florida even lowering the temperature a few degrees with shade, and keeping the brutal direct sun off during the afternoon has been huge. Actually getting bell peppers and tomatoes in the summer has been awesome. Yields on lemon...

misc A patent that could destroy Monsanto?

Think the writer gets paid by the number of times Monsanto is mentioned? If this were cheaper and/or longer lasting than current production-scale pesticide regimes, why hasn't it been adopted on a larger scale? And why does this article appear nearly word-for-word and exclusively on...

water Abrupt leafcurl after watering (within two hours)

I suppose it could be, but if using calcium ferts then it is more likely to be "lock out". However I just attributed it to these being in the bright sun and a little wetter than they would like.

water Abrupt leafcurl after watering (within two hours)

Wouldn't worry about it. May just be a random genetic difference. Perhaps try watering just that plant slightly less than the others.

shade Suchen's leaning tower of shade

The three lemon drop plants have all started ripening at the same time. Each day brings another ~20 ripe peppers to the table. The air temperatures are too hot for the tomatoes overnight, so they are not fully ripening any more. Still tasty, and the fiance made a glorious salsa straight from...

Cutting big old leaves - are there benefits?

If I were to pull large leaves off my ghost pepper, I would have no leaves left.
