Is it too late to grow?

I'm not in Indiana, but growing seasons are the same virtually everywhere that isn't on a pole or equator. Even if you have an Indian summer (something I'm hoping for myself as I'm getting flowers on some Bhut Jolokias now), it's too late to start from seed if you don't have an indoor grow area...

    Order Has Shipped From Pepperlover.com

Yeah, I noticed she got more Douglah seeds in now too. I won't be starting anything until late January, but I'll for sure need to be getting some of those.

    Order Has Shipped From Pepperlover.com

Little update here. I received an email reply from Judy a few days ago explaining how she had shipped the original order several weeks ago, but it must have been lost/stolen/mixed up. She apologized for the trouble, and I received my order yesterday. She was even nice enough to even throw in...

Question About Gnats and Bacillus thuringiensis

Noticed, despite mulching, several gnats (fungus gnats) buzzing up from the soil of my Bhut Jolokias every time I move the plant or tap the side. I'm worried that their larvae will chow down on my roots. I've been using sticky traps but most seem to avoid them. I have BT Discs I can mix in with...

what would you do to prepare for a hot pepper challenge?

Ditto what Beaglestorm said. I was somewhat prepared for the heat of the Bhut Jolokia before I tried it, because I had been eating some of the hottest sauces, and worked my way up the pepper ladder as well. But no matter how stoic you are to the heat in your mouth and throat, the stomach pain...

dried Dried Naga Pods from Whole Foods

Here is something you just don't expect to see -- a mainstream, commercially packaged bag of Bhut Jolokias in a major grocery chain. Were they the real deal (heat-wise)?

    Order Has Shipped From Pepperlover.com

Hey all, I wanted to wait until at least today to see if I'd get any news. Nothing yet. By the end of this upcoming weekend it will effectively be three weeks. Appreciate the feedback. All your accounts hold Judy as upstanding, and her reputation with pepper seeds obviously precede her. Even...

chinense Naganumbness eats a chocolate trinidad scorpion

Looks intimidating. I would have thought more of it if it's crossed with a chocolate hab, assuming it could inherit the cap markers from that. I suppose a lot of the experimental crosses end up with low heat as you aren't insured the progeny will inherit dominant traits from either parent. Look...

    Order Has Shipped From Pepperlover.com

EDIT: I have received said order since creating this thread. As such, I've amended the title of the thread to reflect the current situation more accurately (See my post from 8-11-2011 below). Following the recommendation of several here at the site, I ordered a few sets of seeds from...

Are my habs ready to be moved?

Probably shouldn't be transplanting before your first set of true leaves, but that's a personal rule for soil started seedlings. I don't have experience starting in rockwool. If you're transplanting to soil, I would wait until the roots were coming out of the rockwool.

    Where to purchase hot sauce?

Large chain grocery stores won't have specialty/novelty sauces (not the kind to sate a chilehead's appetite anyway). I've been getting mine online from a merchant on eBay ( http://stores.ebay.com/satketsgeneralstore ). I didn't do much price comparison elsewhere (it was about the same on...

Just added three tablespoons of Melinda's Naga Jolokia sauce and a teaspoon of The Hippy Seed Company's Naga Jolokia powder to a pot of chili. I can't feel my face anymore.

New toys for my peppers today

So your only heat source is the light in there (not including the reflective enclosure)? Not implying that's bad, I was just wondering for myself, as I see everyone measuring humidity and heat when growing indoors, and I was wondering if I should spring for a space heater. -

New toys for my peppers today

Nice grow tent. Is that a heat fan in there (dual space heater and fan)? That horn worm has seen better days.

    smart pots vs. buckets

I'm with muskymojo with this one in that I've never used smart pots, so I'm obviously ill-equipped to give you an informed answer here, but I will say unless someone can give a compelling answer to your problem, or demonstrate how it's uncommon, you've basically persuaded me not to try smart...

    Transplant Shock?

Yeah, I'm going to try to leave it alone for a while. I woke up this morning, went to the garage and noticed leaf drop on the bottom two leaves. Stem and all, it just looked like textbook leaf drop. Not sure what to make of that other than it was obviously stressed from the environment change...

    Transplant Shock?

Thanks for the feedback all. Dividing your advice, I moved it out of the light to the garage for the time being. It's actually warmer out there than in the indoor grow area, but has the benefit of circulating air and low light. I stayed away from the misting as the leaves started looking better...

    Transplant Shock?

So the 3 week old Bhut Jolokia I ordered arrived in the mail today, limpy but alive, with bare roots wrapped in a wet paper towel. I immediately potted it in a 5 gallon container (with plans to move it to a 10 gallon later) full of standard Navlet's neutral organic potting soil, watered it in...

Orange Hab Hotter Than Red Savina?

Or at least only one variety tested there. We have the benefit of two different seed sources for the Orange Hab on that list, but one for the Red Savina. Revealing chart. Thanks for the link there, btw. -

Orange Hab Hotter Than Red Savina?

Yeah, it's interesting to see it oscillate so dramatically between 100,000 to 300,000 SHU. As you pointed out, clearly not all Red Savinas are made alike. I'd be interested to see how much of a chile's heat is nature vs. nurture. It would seem, given all the potentiality and variables, the...
