I am open to any type, but it would be helpul if I can use it on the potted plants as well as the plants in the raised beds.
I have used MG so far up to this point but it does not seem very popular, the drawback is mixing it with water.
Maybe a granular time release would be better?
Lunch is almost over and I am no closer to narrowing down my choice!
I need a fertilizer that is easy, economical and available at Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hardware etc.
Thanks!
I was cooking my seeds and seedlings using the heating pad without a thermometer...the seeds started popping like popcorn in 2-3 days and this weekend I had to plant about 50 in mini-dixie cups.
Some of the seeds had what appears to be a white fungus on the root, but the again, I don't know if...
I am burning my lunch hour searching THP for interesting tips and I keep reading "don't put them out in the sun, you will burn the tender little plants"...or similar wording.
Now, I guess sprouts from seeds that are germinated indoors are inferior, weak etc. if their natural born cousins can...
Oh yeah!!!
A few seeds had germinated after two days, quite a few more this morning so I have to say I flat cooked my seeds.
I will post a picture later.....SV
OK, I put two dish towels between the Pyrex and the pad and before I headed back to work I checked the temperature, 86 degree's +/- so all is good for the time being.
I hope I get some more sprouts, they will all go into Dixie cups and straight outside to take advantage of the mild...
Agreed!
I need to pick up a quality thermometer today, my schedule is tough with all day meetings. I checked this morning and the temperature inside the Pyrex on the seeds was 92 degrees. When I go home for lunch I am going to put a towel between the pad and Pyrex to lower the temps some more...
That is a smartass question and I would kick myself if I could.
I have tried to germinate various seeds since February and did okay with a few varieties. My superhots for the most part failed, I put seeds in ziplocks in late February and more in Burpee super pellets or whatever the hell they...
millworkman,
The trellis is 6' tall, the cages and trellis are made from 4'x18' galvanized 4ga cattle panels.
jacob, madhatter,
Thanks...I drink very little coffee, the containers get recycled at work and I robbed the bin. :D
Changes that I will make next year will be to start earlier, mid-December to early January for super-hots, and moving them outside for real sun earlier, building a small greenhouse or adding two more 48" FL's.
I picked up a transfer pump from Harbor Freight and it would work for watering the...
Cherry Hot, Orange Scotch Bonnet and Jap M
Back Row: Lumbre that turned almost completely yellow and following recommendations at THP, I stopped using tap water that has a PH of 8+ and using lake water. I have also fertilized with 1/2 strength Miracle Grow and they are greening up nicely...
My daughters strawberries, herbs, two Cherry Tomato's and two Better Boy's.
Tomato's for friends and family, a couple of Jap M's and ?
BHN 444, put these heat tolerant tomato's in the new cages.

Apparently I deleted my other photos to save space on Flickr but here are updated photos:
The DIY tomato cages and cucumber trellis.
Orange Hab's from the nursery.

I looked at Weather Underground and it looked like last night was the last of the sub-50 degree low temps for my county so I planted my seeds and seedlings.
I have these seedlings planted in the garden:
Orange Habanero (from local nursery, nice plants) - 6X
Orange Scotch Bonnet - 2X
Billy...
I have two threads with the information below but is answers the same questions in both threads.
And an update, the Lumbre with the really yellow leaves appear to have two new leaves and they are light green, I will post a picture tonight.
I mixed lake water with 1/2 strength Miracle Grow...
And an update, the Lumbre with the really yellow leaves appear to have two new leaves and they are light green, I will post a picture tonight.
I mixed lake water with 1/2 strength Miracle Grow until I sort out the PH of the city water. I am also looking at irrigation pumps, I can buy a small...
Last year I had 24" spacing on some large Jap's, I think they could have been a little closer so I going to try 18" but the plants will be a little close to the edge of the raised bed sides (6"-10") but I think that will be fine.
If I don't get some more seeds going I won't need to put them on...
Funny you suggest that...I tried a Bhut seed the other day, chewed it up good and fine with my front teeth and kept it on the tip of my tongue, sucker was intense for about 30 minutes and just makes me more want to get a live plant going even more!
Not to discourage you, with all the postive feedback but I cannot get a good start on superhots.
Had them in Dixie cups with a sterilized seed starter, on a heat pad and under a cardboard box, many seeds started and many fizzled out, Bhut's, Habaneros and Yellow 7 Pods.
I tried again and...
Thank you AJ, I receive water from Wellborn SUD but they posted a similar document listing PH of 8.3 and Sodium of 234, slightly higher than CoCS on the sodium.
I could not determine if my Brita filter or the Zero Water filter removes sodium so for now I will pull water from the lake.
