    Better Process School

Has anyone here been through these schools yet? I was lucky enough to get a spot in the Clemson class coming up in a few weeks for SC where it is a requirement. Are they fairly tough classes with lots of beakers and science word problems?

fertilizer Fertilizer advice - How many types do you need?

Sarge, I would like to suggest that you take a look into the PourThru method. It will give you the best answer for determining your fertilizer requirements. NC State University has some information about it on their website or do a Google search and it's one of the first links...

    wanted WTB: Paper Lantern Hab

Thank you Scarecrow but I will have to pass. I need to ensure that what I spend all year growing is indeed what I wanted. This growing season has already been a disaster and I don't want a repeat. I hope that doesn't come across as ungrateful. RF, You have been pm'd.

    Ghost Pepper Jelly

Nibbler...a spoon. I think it could be good on a nice stuffed pork chop. But for other stuff, not sure. MeatHead, I followed the Ball pepper jelly recipe. It's 2 cups apple cider vinegar, 5% strength, 6 cups sugar and 2 pouches of liquid pectin. Bring the pepper, sugar and vinegar to a boil...

    Ghost Pepper Jelly

I made my first batches of jelly recently. It took a few tries to find a good balance of heat, flavor and sweet. Who else is making jellies?

    Striking cuttings....

A technique that I learned, but have not used it in my personal experience, is using tupperware containers with a bit of moist sand in it. Use play sand if you do this. The conatainer creates a micro-climate. Some people may have grandparents or parents that have used an upturned mason jar in...

misc New greenhouse = year round production

Nightshade, Will Allen of Growing Power has a fantastic setup of aquaponic houses. It's worth searching out. Mlh5953, I like Kickstarter because to me, it seems more honest than some other crowd sourcing sites. A project has to have a defined goal, be a creative project that fits their...

    Striking cuttings....

Oasis cubes are one of the better rooting media available. But other media can work as well. At the grower that I work for, we use a polymerized soil plug as well as a soilless mix to start plants and cuttings in. The biggest factor is controlling the moisture loss from the cutting until the...

misc New greenhouse = year round production

Thank you. If the Kickstarter fundraiser goes well, it will go up a lot faster. I've also been looking at grants and microloans from places such as Whole Foods and the USDA. The catch on all that I've found is that you have to be established and in production already. I already have a bench...

    Infestation on my ghosty!!!

Most assuredly, Aphids.   Insecticidal soaps work by stripping the aphid of its cuticle layer. That essentially dehydrates the aphid because it can no longer retain moisture.  Plant leaves also have a cuticle layer that retains moisture. Some plants are thicker than others.   It is possible that...

What on God's green Earth is this S.O.B

Leaf Footed Stink Bug.  I deal with them every year. A major PITA, no known control that I know of that is cleared for food. I've spent a lot of time hand picking them into jars and freezing them. It's an easy way of killing them. Also, their nymph stage is similar to that of an Assassin bug, so...

misc New greenhouse = year round production

About a month ago I came across the deal I had been looking for. A used 16'x95' greenhouse frame, that is in excellent condition and thousands of dollars less than new and even a $1,000 or so less than I could have built myself. So cash exchanged hands and I loaded it on my trailer.       For...

    Root Bound = Flower Drop?

When a plant becomes rootbound, an auxin is triggered within the plant that causes it to produce flowers and reproduce. Basically, the plant thinks that it can grow no further, could be nearing the end of its life cycle and must reproduce before it dies.
