MikeinSC's 2012 Digital Diary of Delaying Impending Doom

I still have a handful of stink bugs to identify and something that i dont quite know how to describe. I dont mind the bugs too much. I want to document the various creepies and crawlies that are local here. The photos, and bugs, will be on display at my market stand whenever that happens. It'll...

Spicy grilled bunny burgers would be a good TD entry. The Fish Pepper is beginning to look better. Red Okra Cucumbers are developing now. This plant has really taken off in the last week after sitting idle for about 2. A row of Bhut Jolokia on the right with a few on the left close...

I haven't tried them yet. Maybe today? I found a pack of Goat Horn seed at the local asian market. I have read a lot of posts of people liking these so I figure what the heck. Also found a bunny this morning munching on stuff near the burn pile. It let me get a lot closer than I expected.

    outdoor hydro setup

Thank you David. Those are some nice looking plants you have in the tub. Is anyone doing a Dutch bucket system outdoors with 5 gallon buckets? I can get those for almost free through work and the likeinstead of paying $6-7 for a bato bucket. I think I have a decent design sketched out but...

Thank you. The wind really is depressing although i am thankful to have no dead air around the plants. I plabted a 10ft, 30 gallon Japanese Maple that within 2 days the wind managed to pull it out of the ground by 2 or 3 inches. I found this guy on one of the eggplants. I am not sure what it is...

I didnt get around to it today but i have about 15 corn plants to reset in an upright position. I hope tbat i can disturb the roots and not have the plants affected. A big thunderstorm blew through yesterday and flattened the only plants i have in the ground. I am doing successive plantings of...

That is a Striped Cucumber Beetle. There is also a spotted variety that I'll get a pic of later. This is an Assassin bug still as a young adult.

    Second year plant has issues.

The plant never had issues last year other than my psycho cat that kept eating it. All leaves are new this year since i put it in a new pot and trimmed it for bonsai growth. I suppose another trim wouldn't hurt it but i'd like to pin point the issue before doing something unnecessary.

    Second year plant has issues.

This plant started having some problems a few months ago. It has grown out of some of the problems but other parts are still affected by it. The now healthy parts are flowering and setting some trini scorps for me. I am leaning towards a root issue because it affects the new growth and furthest...

Unfortunately i have found what i believe to be an adult squash bug and about 100 eggs on the plants in the compost pile. An innocent squash of some type. The tomatoes are doing well in the pile. Actually doing better than the ones i have in pots and in the ground. And a cucumber...

I came home from work a little while ago to find that this little dude had cut out the top of a bell pepper. Tragically, it died as a result of an increased weight load that exceeded its capacity.

    Pricing for plants

First figure up all of your costs to produce the plant. Growing media, pots, electric, your time, water, seed, fertilizer, farmers market rent or fees, etc and then divide that into the number of sellable plants and that will give you the cost per plant. If you double that amount, then you know...

I want to eventually have concrete floors with a central drain but that is certainly a luxury item. Gravel with a permeable covering would be a better bet to reduce the chances of buuigs. I want to have hydroponics in there so i really want a floor that reduces weeds and places for bugs to...

That greenhouse is only 20 x 40. I like it because it is big enough that i can install some nft channels as well as have room for veggie starts next year. I would want more room though. I'll know by the end of next week though. I need to find out if the price she is asking for it is a fair...
