    American cars and fuel economy

Chilifan, my car gets around 16 miles per US gallon or 14.8 litres per 100km around town with a 6.2 litre V8 (317kw/425HP) and she only drinks the premium stuff. Fuel prices here can fluctuate quite a lot but probably average a little over AUD$1.50 for 98RON premium or $5.68 per US gallon. We're...

    Melbourne, source of fresh chilis.

You'll be hard pressed to find fresh ones in Melbourne at this time of year. You could try http://www.usafoods.com.au/ in Moorabbin and see what they have canned, dried etc.

event Melbourne, Aus - Hot Sauce and Fiery Food Festival 17th & 18th March.

I was a bit disappointed at the amount of stall holders on the Sunday, I assume Saturday was the same. Not very many sauce sellers at all.

    Tasted a Durian today

I've tried one before and it was revolting in smell and taste.....NEVER cut one up indoors! They do freeze them to transport them to Australia however, so I'd try one fresh off the tree if I ever get the chance. The juice from the bottom of the trash can......... :halo:

    Sichuan House - Melbourne, Australia

If you like szechuan food you'll enjoy Sichuan House. Situated on Corrs Lane in Chinatown, they make authentic szechuan and are not a westernized "Chinese" restaurant. We ordered 12 different meals and I tried every one of them, all of them tasted fantastic. With varying heat levels you can take...

Durian addiction, so trying to grow one?

A while ago curiosity got the better of me and I bought a durian from the supermarket (imported frozen and defrosted before sale). I'd also describe it as like eating rotten onions, truly horrid. If I ever got a chance to eat a freshly dropped one I'd give it another go (have previously read...

overwintering Winter-Summer in OZ "Comparison" / Aussie Blabberers

A few early starters I see. I'll be getting some seeds down this weekend or next and will keep fingers crossed for a better season than last. I'll be putting in some raised beds this year incase we have another wet Summer. All the best to everyone.

    Rain, rain, rain... Seriously?

If your Summer is anything like the one we got here in many parts of Australia, the rain will just keep on keeping on. I had an extremely bad growing season mostly due to the weather. I only watered my plants a few times all Summer. My house had some minor flooding in January and the new carpets...
