Here are some photos of this year's hybrid stabilization project noted on pages prior. I'll note this continues to be fun, and we are definitely able to note the progress in weaning traits in and out of the line. These would be F5 pods. All plants are large and put out lots of fruit. We've...

Yeah.  The MN was the mother for this line.   Great plants.  I just don't want to have to search for them every year, and oftentimes, never even find them.   I swear if the trends continue into next year, I'll have a slightly larger, stable version of these from seed.

Thought I'd check back in this year with the next generation of the large jala hybrids I'm trying to tame.   In total there are 7 F4 plants (to produce next year's F5 seeds), and really only 1 has major deficiencies worth noting (unusual shape of pods, less fruit, unusual shape and smaller size...

Yeah.  No question.  That post was narrowly for solid7.   Neem is a great tool.  Never used it for grubs, but I'm not surprised it's a solution.   I use it for all kinds of pests, fungus, etc.

So, checking back in.  I ran the Gigante Jalapenos this year along side our attempts to even out the hybrid strain we like.   They produced great quantities, but fruit was a bit smaller    The hybrid plants performed pretty well.   I ended up with 8 F3 hybrids, and roughly 5 had consistently...

    Fatali Plant Won't Turn Green

lol.   K dude.  No offense bud, but pretty much everything here is wrong unless you say it.  It get's pretty annoying to read.     Guy had yellow leaves.  Adding N improves chlorophyll in leaves and generally improves the leafy performance of a plant.   It's not opinion, it's well studied. ...

tutorial The Comprehensive Guide to Over-Wintering

I have a five year old fatalii who's been a great annual producer. We're nearing the time of year when he moves back in with us, and I was wondering if anyone tailors their late season feed to improve the seasonal performance. I typically use fish emulsion for most of the year. Maybe a little...

    Fatali Plant Won't Turn Green

I have a five year old fatalii that has been a strong producer each year, even if I'm rough hardening it off after winter and turn it into a hatrack like I did this year. That looks like a watering issue. As others have said, good draining soil is key for these, and the last two repots I've...

    lighting 24 Hour Lighting?

Another year with clear excellent results on my peppers with 24 hr lighting through the first pot-up. Tomatoes don't seem to have benefitted as much. The rest period hypothesis is bunko.

So given limited space, I'm only growing a few of the F3 seeds myself, but I planted another half dozen to pawn off on other family members so I could pick the best specimen for next year's F4. So far the plants look great. I've got more consistency in fruit than my darn heirloom poblabos!

    lighting 24 Hour Lighting?

Those expiriments exist online, and the results were undeniable. Thicker stems, larger plants, earlier fruit, and for some plants early enough an entire second set of fruit was obtained. check out garden Web. I'm not in this to shave pennies on electricity. Gardening at this scale is...

    lighting 24 Hour Lighting?

I ran my jalapeño and poblabos under 24hrs LED last yr from when they germinated until I started hardening, and the plants were dark green and robust, and produced truckloads of fruit. The rest thing, at least for those varieties, is BS.

Cool.   Yeah, everyone said not to do the F2s, but I did it anyways, and I didn't have real regrets.  As I noted, there were a couple weirdos, but 50% of the plants were true to variety.  The question there is if I'm already at F3, I'm almost half-way to stabilizing the line.   Most online...

I'm about to get my starters in for this years pepper crop, and over the last few years, I've fallen in love with the larger varieties.  They're just way better for stuffing, chopping, pickling etc.   What I'd like, is a larger variety that is at least as hot as a standard (no need to burn the...

    Greetings

I'm a big hot pepper fan living in New England.  Grew up with family gardening, and my brother and I now tend a 25'x50' plot, as well as gardens at our homes.   I have a 5 year old fatalii plant potted, who annually produces hundreds of peppers for us, which we primarily use to make our favorite...
