Devv: Someday, I'll get this right, South Tejas Growing

Wow! I'm sceered to death of being rattle snake bit. Although last year an aggressive rat snake bit my foot. Dang thing came after me as I was dumping kitchen waste in the compost bin. No more trips to the garden in flip flops!   I've been hit by scorpions 4 times; the first time was in bed when...

Thanks Uros!   That's the first one we've seen since it warmed up that is alive. The dogs got to two small garter snakes already. Funny with a rattle snake they don't engage, they just bark like crazy. Then I let them inside and the snake leaves. I try not to harm them. I call them rat patrol!

Any snake scares LB, I guess better safe than sorry!   I've never seen a snake like the one in your pic. Do you know what kind it is?

We have the Leaf Footed Leaf Hopper too. They suck, literally. They go after color, orange and red. They come into my garden late, hitting the last of the tomato season.   Any peppers I run after late June to July constantly get damaged by their sting marks. I literally go out every day...

It's not the octane, octane = how slow I burn. Better said is, higher octane is harder to ignite. Think charcoal lighter fluid, then ether ;) You need ethanol free fuel. Have a look:   https://www.pure-gas.org/index.jsp?stateprov=MI   One can easily change the state of residence..

LB strolled by and had to comment on the bread, which looks great!   She's been making bread here lately, not so much because of the lock-downs, but because she now has the time. She was wondering how you get the crust so dark? What temp do you bake at?   And the fog/mountain pics are fantastic...

I just read up on this, thanks!   The plant in the pic has the most damage in the garden. I'm hoping the planned crop rotation helps with this issue in the future.

We walk for about 40-45 minutes every day after we tend to the garden, before it gets too  hot. LB freaked when she saw this, thinking it was a rattle snake. Losing 3 letters, it's just a rat snake. But a large one!

Thanks Paul!   The first thing every morning LB and I go out and take care of whatever the garden needs. About 1-2 hours a day.   I have the pods in the dehydrator...gotta go and help cook dinner...I've been summoned!

Thanks Eric!   We had so much Asparagus this year we had to put it up. The beds are fully mature now so here we go.   Ah, I was wondering about the belts. 6 acres is a lot to mow! I know I've done it in years past. I only mow about an acre and lease the rest, which I mow with the tractor and the...

Thanks Mika!   Actually my wife found this place, and called me. She said "go look at this place, I want it!" This was in late 1988. There was a contract on it and when it fell through, we jumped on it. Closed on Saint Paddy's day 1989. It's so quiet out here that we can here the neighbors...

I saw the first sign of sun damage on a sweet pepper (Jimmy Nardello) about 3 weeks ago. A week or so later, maybe two I put up the sun shades (30% cloth).   My climate here is very dry. One hour West it gets desert like.   Tomatoes can go in the ground March 1st. Done by the end of June...

Totally off topic here:   But, you guys are talking mowers, and my first career was as a fuel and emissions technician. So I be's a little edumacated in that regard. The alcohol in the fuel really Forks them up, as well as any small engine. If you can find alcohol free fuel, use that.   The...

Hi Glen,   When I see any fruit with a bug hole it gets airborne, as far out of the garden as I can throw it. I don't want whatever ate it to be around ;) So that pod is in the field somewhere.  I have cut several pods open over the years and never find the bugger that made the hole. And yes I...

Don't laugh...we picked them up at Walmart several years ago. I don't know what kind they are....They work, and keep spreading. 2 of the 4 beds are from volunteers.   One thing I have found is most of the seed catalogs seem to be up North, and when I would buy something it was sent way after our...
