I've used a banana in a bag with other things to ripen them but never tried an Onion.
I guess they probably give off a similar gas as the bananas that accelerates the ripening.
Local nursery had some "Bell" Jolokia last year. It happens... Sometimes its a legit mistake but Ebay, I think they do the switch for sure... And anywhere that by the time you find out what you have its too late to do anything about it.
Yep Ive had Rats, mice, and I'm guessing a squirrel eat mine. Caught too many Rats in traps to count over the last few years.

I put a dozen or so rat traps set with little pieces of dried pepperoni. Got about 10 rats over a month or so and lost at least 3 traps that disappeared when whatever tripped it ran off still stuck to it.
My plants are now left completely alone. Finally...
If you want to know when your plants need water all you have to do is simply look at them every evening a little while after the direct sunlight has gone off of them.
Are the leaves still wilting? If so, then water. Only then. Done. Easy.
You'll be amazed how little water they need.
I have a shade cloth that isn't directly over my plants but off about 3 foot to the side of my garden and it goes from a house roof to a 7 foot fence. It's about 10 feet wide and has other more shade requiring plants under it.
