    Carolina Reaper (HP22B) Community Grow

2013 is going to be my first try with the Reaper. I started about 8 seedlings and gave away all but two. This was the status of them on 5-3-13. It is cold and cloudy in Georgia. We need some sunshine and warm weather! Big Mike Visit us Online: www.knot2worry.us

    Big Mike's 2013 Chile's

I've passed this group of ten plants to my friend John K. this morning. Now I'm down to about a dozen left to give away. I've given away over a hundred seedlings this spring. That is fun. Big Mike Visit us Online: www.knot2worry.us/chiles

    media Jiffy Peat Pellets....Never Again.

Jiffy's have their place but I'm not sure that they are the best solution with chile pepper seeds/seedlings. I've tried them (as well as several other containers) and have found that regular 3 ounce bathroom drinking cups work the best for me. You can see how I use them here...

Down to only a handful left that need a good home! I'll get some pictures of some plants outside now over the weekend. Things are going well.

    pests aphid control? hydroponics flower?

When I mix dish soap to kill aphids, I mix it a bit stronger than some do (about 3% or 1.5 Tablespoons in a 750 ML Sprayer). I leave it on the plants for 15 minutes or so then rinse off well with water. That way, the solution is strong enough to kill the aphids (and it does kill them for sure)...

    Big Mike's 2013 Chile's

Well, we have had a little warm weather in the Atlanta area but I'm hoping for a good warming trend next week. I'd like to see those evening temperatures consistently above 50° F. At this point, I've planted Habaneros, Jalapeños and Serranos in ground. Some others already outside...

    pests Unidentified Bug...

Ok. I've heard that ladybug larvae eat as many or even more aphids than their fully developed counterparts. I just didn't know exactly what they looked like. I'm going to baby them now. Thanks for the replies! Big Mike Visit us Online: www.knot2worry.us

    pests Unidentified Bug...

Here's one for you entomologists. I have a few of these on my plants. Had a few of them on my plants last year as well. I don't know what it is but I don't want to just kill them if they are "meat eaters". Let me know if you can identify him. Could it be a larval ladybug? As usual with my...

Slow Growing Bhut Jolikias And Scorpions

I've found that this (slow development among the Chinense chile peppers) is more of a factor while the seedlings are inside. Once outside, they more nearly are able to keep up with my others. Nevertheless as has been pointed out above, it is a slow go. Big Mike Visit us Online: www.knot2worry.us

Finally got the homeowners association to let me grow...

I'm pushing the envelope. Increasing my number of plants by about a third this year. Last year, the HOA Secretary came and sat on my front porch with me twice and never said a word. (Of course I was feeding and watering him). Hope I can dodge the bullet again this summer. It's squarely a...

When to start using a fan

I keep a fan on my seedlings from the time they sprout. I keep it going 24 hours a day (low or medium setting and not too close to the seedlings). I think this helps strengthen the stems and it helps keep the nasties away. Big Mike Visit Us Online: www.knot2worry.us

    misc ladybugs!

I've had a diligent team of ladybugs in my seedlings but I noticed yesterday they were getting behind with the job. I hit the seedlings with the neem oil. For the next three weeks until I'm able to get these outside, I guess the neem oil will have to be kept handy. Big Mike www.knot2worry.us

    What varieties have defeated you?

I going to update my situation. I've had some (late) good luck. At this point, I have only been whipped by the Trinidad 7 Pot Barrackpore. I have everything else up and running (thanks in part to help from some good folks on this forum). I will start earlier next year though. I started on...
