I've been very pleased with how this second batch of starts has come up. I'll be transplanting into solo cups over the course of this week. Still probably 3-4 weeks away from being ready to move them outdoors.

    soil Soil compaction....

I figured it was a watering issue. I'll try that if it becomes an issue again this year. last year I was completely clueless. This year, I'm just slightly clueless (mainly because I have THP for information)

    soil Soil compaction....

What's the best way to avoid it? I'm about to start transplanting several plants into 5-7 gallon pots; the only issue I really had last year was the soil eventually becoming extremely compacted and cutting off growth. I've used the search function but haven't found much specifically dealing...

Wanted to share a pic of my progress. its completely low tech since the flood/fire, but the seeds I ended up starting indoors afterwards are taking off. They're in a cardboard box lined with foil, with a cheapo light doing all it can to help them out. Given the circumstances, I couldn't be...

    No frills beginners luck growing?

I'm about as low tech as they come on here, although I don't grow in the size and scope as many of our members ( who are admittedly much more successful and knowledgeable than I am.) . Right now I have my starts that aren't ready to be potted yet in a carbdoard box lined with aluminum foil...

Joe, that is absolutely appreciated but not necessary. Between the plants I was able to salvage (who are outside thriving in this wonderful weather right now) and the 60 starts I have in the house, I'll have more than enough plants to get me through the year. I appreciate your dedication to...

    Sprouting peppers

Have any pictures? How big are they/have they gotten their true leaves? That, and I don't know enough about Nebraska weather to give you a good answer. Here in Louisiana I'm moving plants outside right now, but its 78-90 degrees here now and nights in the upper 60s.

We had some flooding in north Louisiana that caused a small electrical fire in my garage (its detached from the house thank God), and it wreaked havoc on my starts. I was able to salvage about 13 plants that will survive. Several of my bhuts and a few butch t's are going to pull through. But...

    Best beer I ever had

Had it on my honeymoon back in November while we were hopping across Europe. Brewed and distributed only around Lucerne; I brought a sixer back and have been dying for more ever since. I emailed the brewery and asked about possibly having some shipped, but it would cost the equivalent of my...

    dropping pods

Most of the time mine pop off on their own. Other times a careful hand and some small tweezers or nail clippers will do the trick

    diamond coated cookware

I've tried them, didn't care for them too much. I have All Clad pots and pans, and my grandma's old cast iron. I got one of these as a gift, and I gave it away. Nice, but you can get just as good performance out of a $20 nonstick skillet.

    Too late to start?

I run into that as well. I'm in the Ruston area. I do almost all of mine in pots so I can move them as needed. When I move some more out shortly they'll stay in full sun all day long, but as we start to warm up I move most of my plants onto my patio where there is some shade and they get a...
