    seeds Germinating Datil

My big Datils popped fine but are shooting up a bit too fast and getting leggy/top heavy. Despite fan, I may need to use a skewer to stake.

    What pepper do I want?

I like Aleppo. A bit like a smaller red bell, they rate on the higher end of the hottest jalapeños (appx 10-15k). Unlike rocotos, they produce peppers much faster.

Any Cigar Smokers in the House

Nice set up. I was big into cigars during the 90s. I bought by the case from JR and even got Cubans on trips to Vancouver. I fell out of it for a variety of reasons (health, kids, cost). Every now and then I try one again, but they just don't taste the same. It's like my taste buds changed...

    soil Previous Seasons Potted Soil

I was just typing the same thing when this posted! :) I do like a 50/50 mixture, old soil and new compost (with some extra perlite, etc). For the larger pots and cloth bags (10gal+), I often just scoop out a big portion in the middle and fill with amended soil. This also depends on how...

    Golden Bhut Jolokia

To clarify, I meant holding their color in subsequent generations. The yellow bhut is supposedly difficult to stabilize in that color.

    Golden Bhut Jolokia

Cool. I don't know about "golden", but yellow is one of the known natural bhut jolokia variants. It's not as common though, and often reverts back to red again. I had some yellows show up last year from red seed. I've got some yellow F2s sprouting right now and hope they keep their color.

    P. Dreadie Memorial Group Grow 2016

Got my P. Dreadie Yellow Scotch Bonnets in the soil. I obtained the seeds in 2012 from a member and saved seed in 2013. I marked them as "good" - which means they came from particularly good pods. I hope they germinate! I found some SB Large Red CARDI next to the P. Dreadies and put a few of...

    Who Tops Their Peppers?

Hi, Mene! Yes. We relocated from Portland about 2 years ago. I'm still adjusting to the growing differences. Last season was pretty good and I also worked as the "pepper manager" at a local farm. It was a learning experience and I got to grow lots of extra varieties.

    Who Tops Their Peppers?

Never topped mine before ... BUT, I think I'm going to try this year.   As Juanitos said, they do get too big inside and are a pain to manage. Last frost for me is May 20th. So, there's a practical reason. Also, some of my plants get very tall but either produce very late and or poorly. So, I...

    overwintering Over Wintering Benefits

Agreed. This is the worst part of overwintering for me. Come early spring, my overwinters get hammered with aphids and mites. Outside, none can be found late season as they are held in check. But, they come back in full force in the garage with no natural predators. So, keep a close watch and...

    chinense California Reaper?

Just wait until my Idahoan Reaper (formerly known as the Primo) makes its debut.  After years of careful cross-breading, it's 2mil SHU & the size of a potato!         :P  :P

    Bell Peppers

I grew Islander last year (a purple bell type) and had decent results. I didn't count but they seemed to be fairly productive. Here, bells seem to like a sunshade. The large pods are more sensitive to sun scald.
