    chinense Best Scotch Bonnet??

https://www.superhotchiles.com/ I like superhotchiles for seeds. He has a large variety to pick from, and he claims to isolate all of the plants, so there should be a higher chance that the seeds are actually what you were hoping for.

    Curry peppers 2020

Peppers are ripening. Have picked a few red congo, many hot chocolate habaneros, and a couple handfuls of aji cachucha. One yellow congo ripe so far. The aji cachucha have a better flavor I think if left on the plant a few days after turning red. They then turn a darker red. Hot chocolates...

    Curry Tomatoes 2021

A groundhog dug under the fence, ate many of my tomatoes, and damaged the tomato vines. I had been leaving the groundhog alone, but it might be time for me to try to remove it from my yard.

    Curry Tomatoes 2021

Pulled a hornworm off one of the plants this morning after noticing a damaged tomato. Do I need to remove the damaged tomato, or will it still ripen to an edible fruit?

    Curry Tomatoes 2021

I have 5 plants, each a different type. Golden jubilee Golden King of Siberia Sunrise bumblebee Abe Lincoln Tappys I do not have much experience with tomatoes. Last year the plants were all completely eaten by deer early in the season. This year I put up a little fence which has worked so far...

    Curry peppers 2020

Some wind damage recently, but plants are doing well overall.    I have my tomatoes planted in the dirt in a more protected location. They are growing very well and hardly need watering compared to my potted plants.  I may try growing some of my pepper plants in the soil next year.   My spring...

    chinense mild Capsicum chinense peppers

I tried my first several Aji Cachucha peppers this week.  Seeds were from Refining Fire Chiles.   Small saucer shaped pepper pods, nice to look at.  Upon slicing, very little aroma.  They did not have the aromatic chinense scent or flavor at all.  Green, they have an unpleasant bitter taste. ...

    Cicadas

Indiana. Fishing with them is a good idea. Cicadas are mostly gone now, but it is disturbing to think that they could be eating the roots of trees or other plants in my yard. I saw some neighbors protecting small trees with nets, but I didn’t have the time or energy to even consider doing that.

    Cicadas

Cicadas have been everywhere in my yard this year, including on my pepper plants. Any cause for concern with potential damage to pepper plants? They have been so loud that going near certain trees hurts my ears.

    food Jerk

Last week, I compared Bahamian goat pepper with Foodarama yellow scotch bonnet, by making jerk cornish hens with each pepper type, and then tasting side by side.  We had 6 tasters.   I first made my jerk marinade in the blender, but without any peppers.  I then divided the marinade in half...

    Curry peppers 2020

Aphids appeared this week.  Sprayed several plants with Bonide neem oil spray (clarified hydrophobic extract).   On one of the plants, the aphids were predominantly located on the flowers.  I do not often pinch off early flowers, but this seemed like a particularly appropriate moment to do so.

    Curry peppers 2020

Came home from my trip to ripe peppers, goat and jamaican hot chocolate.   Initial impressions for these two varieties:   Goat pepper - Beautiful white color on the inside when cut. Nice smell, taste, and heat. Worked very well in a jerk marinade.   Jamaican hot chocolate - Very hot. High heat...

    Curry peppers 2020

Plants have been outside most of the week.  It has been tiring, bringing the plants outside and then back into the house, several times, as part of the hardening off process.    This is my first season starting with plants of these sizes.  It is a little stressful seeing them exposed to the...

    Curry peppers 2020

I now have a handful of pepper pods on my Hot Chocolate Habanero and Bahamian Goat pepper plants.  I have been pollinating with a Q-tip, but not sure how much that has helped.  These two plants now take up slightly over half of my 5 x 5 grow tent.  The pods have been there for several weeks...

Keep Grow Bags Off The Deck

This year, I am using square pots from Amazon that, by their design, have the drainage holes elevated above the ground, and most of the base of the entire pot is somewhat elevated above the deck or ground.  I am pretty happy with these so far.  They seem to be a reasonable value, and a good size...

I am already thinking about what I want to grow in 2022.  Puerto Rican Yellow looks like it might be a true yellow chinense pepper. https://www.superhotchiles.com/product/puerto-rican-yellow-pepper-seeds/

Growth increased dramatically after I increased the temperature. I am hoping they set peppers soon. So far the buds have all dropped before flowering.
