    CurryPepper’s 2023 gardening

I also started some culantro in the Bato buckets, in the shade at the bases of the tomatoes and peppers.

    CurryPepper’s 2023 gardening

The Mr Stacky hydroponic vertical garden has been successful. This year I have more herbs with less effort compared to prior years. I have struggled with culantro in the past, but it is doing better this year. Hydroponic seems to be a good method for them. In the winter and spring, my first...

    Currypeppers 2023

The tomatoes and pepper plants have filled in the available space and are now growing as a tangled mass. It has been interesting to see how different the growth is, crowded and well supported plants, compared to well spaced plants trying to support themselves. I didn’t realize peppers were...

    pics Bahamian goat pod halved

Goat pepper seems to be a favorite variety for most who grow it. They are highly productive, have exceptionally good flavor, and very beautiful pods.

flavor Bell pepper colour taste profile's & Hot pepper profile's ?

I am surprised an appreciation for unripe chinense hasn’t caught on more with the online pepper community. In the Midwest United States, grocery stores periodically carry overripe sad looking orange habaneros with shriveled brown stems, but they never have green ones. If you want nice fresh...

flavor Bell pepper colour taste profile's & Hot pepper profile's ?

The visual effect of color has a large effect on perceived taste. If you challenge yourself to blind taste tests, you might find less difference between red, yellow, and orange bells than you thought. You might find just as much difference between red bell peppers from the same plant picked at...

flavor Bell pepper colour taste profile's & Hot pepper profile's ?

Only harvesting fully ripe peppers is an oddity of hobbyist pepper growers. I think this is partially done as a justification for growing the peppers to start with. Green peppers from the grocery are cheap and good, but it is hard to find ripe jalapeños at the grocery. I also think this...

I enjoy green (unripe) chinense, and consumption of green chinense is very common in the Caribbean.

chinense How are your bonnets doing?

You have some nice bonnet shaped pods. I am growing MOA, TFM, Safi Red, frontera, and Lemon Starrburst. MOA pods are mostly not bonnet shaped so far. Flavor is excellent, classic Jamaican scotch bonnet flavor. TFM pods are habanero shaped. More thin walled compared to other Jamaican...

favorite What are your favorite jalapeño varieties?

As the fresh pepper season continues, the lemon spice jalapeño has grown on me and has become my favorite hot pepper of the season. I like to slice them and add them to my sandwiches or other meals. Very nice crunch, flavor, heat level, and burn profile. I prefer the instant burn in my...

    Currypeppers 2023

Over the weekend, I installed a float valve for the water reservoir, and I put up a security camera so I can monitor the plants when I am away.

chinense I'm confused about the Datil pepper

My Datil pods are starting to ripen. Seeds from superhotchiles.com . Flavor is good. Taste to me is closer to a yellow habanero than to a scotch bonnet. How are your Datils tasting and looking this year?

    Currypeppers 2023

The Dutch bucket peppers do not wilt in the summer heat. I had always thought a little wilting in the afternoon was normal. Photograph is a MOA scotch bonnet and a TFM scotch bonnet that have grown into each other.

favorite What are your favorite jalapeño varieties?

This is my first season growing jalapeños. I grew Craig's grande jalapeno and lemon spice jalapeno. Craig's jalapeño turned into a very nice healthy looking productive plant. The flavor is good, standard jalapeno flavor, but most of the pods are almost heatless. I was hoping for at least...

    CurryPepper’s 2023 gardening

I grew two plants of Cherokee purple from Ferry-morse seeds. Each plant is making distinctively different tomatoes. One is making round red fruits. The other is producing flat, irregularly shaped fruits with a darker color.

    CurryPepper’s 2023 gardening

A couple of weeks ago, the ground fault interrupter got tripped and my plants didn’t get watered for almost a week. The plants looked quite bad, but they have since recovered and they now look nice and healthy again and have been producing plenty of ripe fruit. I removed the dead branches.
