This week I set up an automatic watering system for my black pots. I used the same type water pump, emitters, and hoses that I used on the Bato buckets.

Everything is looking good in the hydroponic systems. The hardest part has been pruning the tomato plants to keep them from completely overgrowing the pepper plants.

I have made several more batches of hot sauce with red wine vinegar. I have tried a few brands of red wine vinegar. My favorite is Filippo Berio which is 7% instead of the usual 5%. Since the vinegar is 40% stronger, I increased the peppers in my recipe by 40%.

I ate the first ripe pepper of the year today, lemon spice jalapeño. Tasting notes: Flavor and aroma of neem oil (should have washed it more thoroughly). Nice pleasant burn. A bit of green grassy type jalapeño flavor, even though it appears fully ripe.

Tomatoes are growing quickly.

Bato buckets are up and running. The purple kale colored up nicely outside. I may just keep these as an ornamental plant. I read that kale taste best when grown in cool weather, and it has finally warmed up here this week.

I started construction of the Dutch bucket system this week. Still more to do. This will be 16 feet long with 10 total buckets when completed.

Moved the rest of my seedlings into solo cups today. I removed the netting. The roots hadn’t grown through the netting as badly as I expected. Plants all look ok to me at this point, although I have payed less attention to them than planned.
