sinensis grow log 2019 (with tomato grafting!)

hey CaneDog,   yes, the base survived and is doing well:   april 8:     june 16:     towards the end of having it indoors, some of the leaves looked kinda weird, especially the newest growth. they really crispy/wrinkly/wavy. i don't know if it was lack of nutes or being too close to the...

    Legal question

if you're really concerned and can tolerate the (imo) distasteful aesthetic, maybe throw a couple signs up. one that says 'no trespassing' and one that says 'poisonous plants'. or maybe you could write both warnings on one sign.   other potent defense measures: having homeowners'/renters'...

Chicago folks, where to find hot peppers/plants?

i suggest growing seedlings this year and buying seeds online of 'harder to find' varieties to start late winter / early spring for harvest next year.   last year, this place had a bunch of pepper seedlings. ghost peppers, scorpions, reapers, habs, etc. they probably have them this year too...

for-sale Pure Evil Capsaicin Drops OOPS! Sale

i see. thanks for explaining and showing pics. they are very telling.   capsaicin is supposed to be a colorless, crystalline (with some waxiness to it) solid. clearly your extract is of considerably higher purity than the gunk on the right and excludes bad tasting stuff that gives extract sauces...

for-sale Pure Evil Capsaicin Drops OOPS! Sale

so you're saying your product is an extract, albeit a superior one -- perhaps higher purity from being washed or recrystallized to exclude undesirable/bitter components? or supercritical CO2 extraction or something instead?   i get that you want to differentiate your product from others because...

for-sale Pure Evil Capsaicin Drops OOPS! Sale

what'd you mess up? capsaicin concentration doesn't match the label?         what's that mean? the capsaicin was produced via a synthetic route and was not extracted from plants?

event Chi-Town Hot Sauce Expo 2019 (June 29-30), who's going?

my friends and i haven't decided which day we're going yet, but if it's all the same to everyone, i'll try to get us to go on sunday then. a little THP meetup!   lol, omg. good luck on the competition. personally i wouldn't wanna eat more than a couple reapers  :fireball:   i'll try the less...

How to shop @Costco without a membership.

access control (membership check) essentially happens at the checkout register. not at the entrance, not at the food court register, etc. those goons where you walk in are basically just greeters. you can tell them you're going to the food court or just want to have a 'look around' or whatever...

How to shop @Costco without a membership.

does this mean i can finally shop at costco and tell the receipt checker goons at the exit to fuϲk off without even breaking my (non-existent) member agreement? my kind of loophole

    TDS/PPM/PH

if you have some time, read the study i linked to in my last post. the one about south african mine water.   these "total dissolved solids" ("TDS") meters are really electrical conductivity (EC) meters, not TDS meters because that's what they're really measuring. i am writing "TDS" in quotes to...

    TDS/PPM/PH

sounds ok, but maybe research more and wait for others to chime in   yes, TDS depends on your starting water. and theoretically, distilled water should have a TDS of 0 ppm. PS: since you say you are short on research, i say this just as an FYI, not to 'correct' you... your meter is really...

event Chi-Town Hot Sauce Expo 2019 (June 29-30), who's going?

http://www.chitownhotsauceexpo.com   here's how the tickets are looking right now:     last year, i told myself i'd just buy a ticket at the door because eventbrite charges an extra fee to buy online, but i wonder if this is special earlybird pricing. for comparison, here's the pricing from...

lighting Need opinions on these 2 LED lights

quantum boards imo are the most elite led grow lights, especially 'official' HLG ones. but it's really hard for me to justify the price for just some peppers or whatever. imho they make a lot more sense if you're growing weed to sell.

    Wanted: Transition Team

nice, good luck with the migration!   there will always be haters, but guys, something to remember is upgrading isn't optional. big upgrades are always eventually necessary, and they almost always entail majorly changing the look and feel.

    CaneDog - Off-Season Season 2018/19

CaneDog i love the cutting holder you made with the open cell foam.   also despite being so old (over a month wow, peppers root slow), the leaves look healthy. i think that amount of foliage is the correct amount, nice to see a good example of how to do it.
