    seeds Growing mediums / seedlings

you'll want your ph lower instead of higher, for peppers. i prefer to use coco coir pellets, and i've heard lots about using "moisture control" type potting soils. rockwool is nothing i'm familiar with. good luck.

seeds Can I use seeds from my own plants to grow more next year?

dry them well and store them in airtight containers in the dark. some folks even freeze them.

water can plants die if they are overwatered?

i'd think they would be fine. mine have been getting rained on every day for the past week or so and they are fine. i am in florida, though.    BUT, i did have some seedlings that were in the wrong spot and the water running off the house smashed them down to about nothing. killed most of them...

new grower / pinch or not?

if they're a foot tall or so, i just let it ride. some peppers will flower too soon, others seem like they will never flower. +1 on letting it ride.

lots of flowers drop. it's normal. if every flower became a pepper, i'd probably have gotten buried in them by now

    Thoughts on new leaf damage

calcium deficiency or pest damage. i'd imagine in a hydro set up you'd need to use a lot of cal-mag

are these sprouts big / healthy enough to transplant?

let them get another couple sets of leaves...i would. 3 sets of true leaves is a good "rule of thumb"

    sun sunburn, disease, watering?

seedlings like that only need a couple hours of sunlight a day. any more than that until they have about 3 sets of leaves is overkill   at least for me in florida. your results may vary...

Tokyo Burning: 4 weeks in, any advice on leaf discoloration? [2013]

the burnt tips could indicate fertilizer burn. at their size, i'd only give them half strength doses of ferts.

    Straw as mulch

ok. i did not know the difference. i imagine if you could get some straw without seeds it would work well. i've used a bail of hay that was given to me for free as mulch, and i had tons of weeds everywhere. so you can get a bail of straw without seed for 7 bucks?
