Im planning on growing 2 plants each of 4 varieties all from Heirloom:   A Grappoli D'Inverno Tomato Chadwick Cherry Tomato San Marzano Lungo No. 2 Tomato Blue Berries Tomato   Im not much of a slicing tomato kind of person.  Would rather have cherry/grape type for cutting in half and throwing...

overwintering bug pre-treatment before bringing plants inside for winter

I dont want to unpot them or trim them to nothing or anything like that.  I just want to bring them in and put them under the grow light I ordered and keep them growing as they are for ~3 months before I can get them back outside ~March time frame.   Sounds like the insecticidal soap will do the...

overwintering bug pre-treatment before bringing plants inside for winter

As has been evidence by all of my amateur questions, I am new to pepper growing.   I am going to have to bring my 4 reaper plants inside soon.  Temps are predicted to get down below 40 here in Dallas by mid month.  I am not interested in doing the traditional "over winter" of cutting everything...

plant told it was a "ghost pepper plant"

I dont think my pod looked like hab's.  I agree it didnt look like reaper, but definitely IMO not habanero.  And my seeds came from Ed Currie so unless he is suddenly sending out fake or bad seeds, im chalking mine up to a weird first year thing and will see what else the plants produce.

chinense Tried first super hot: Carolina Reaper

Thanks for the offer.  I think I am set with these and I am going to let them grow completely out next year in a real garden and not in pots and see what I get before I trash these and start over.  I still have 10 more seeds from Ed Currie if I decide to grow more.  Out of the 10 we tried to...

chinense Tried first super hot: Carolina Reaper

Seeds came direct from Ed Currie at Puckerbutt so I hope they are legit.  The plants look like all the other reaper plants I have seen pictures of.   My room mate in St. Louis started these seeds for me in probably May in a hydroponics seed starter setup.  They got transplanted in small little...

chinense Tried first super hot: Carolina Reaper

Decided last spring on a whim to grow some Carolina Reapers.  Never grew hot peppers, dont know anything much about growing anything.   Got 1 pod off 4 plants this year and it was a tiny little pod.  I understand they tend to do this first year and second will be a lot bigger.  I've got lots of...

    heat mat size?

Getting ready to buy my first heat mat to start some seeds for next year, most likely late December/January some time.  Looking at 25 pepper seeds and who knows what else(tomato, cucumber, beans, etc...).   Looking at heat mats and I have no clue what size to buy.  I cant imagine myself ever...

fermenting Fermenting hot sauce invaded by tiny glitter fairies!

looks a little like salt crystals to me   But to be sure if its glitter or not, wait till its done, eat some, if you poop glitter, it was glitter.

    smoking Ash tray meat

it is, buy an electric smoker and a wireless Maverick ET733!   And they are ALL legit techniques depending on what kind of smoker you have IMO.  Big smoker can tolerate different things than a small smoker.  Things that you do in a big smoker will kill your small smoker and things you do in...

    smoking Ash tray meat

continuously feed your fire small amounts of un-burned charcoal.  Like 3-4 pieces an hour.   I always had a mental problem with burning a chimney of charcoal and then adding it.  Wasted a good amount of the burn time on the charcoal IMO.  So I just kept adding 3-4 chunks of charcoal every hour...

    smoking Ash tray meat

yup switch to a decent hardwood lump charcoal and use a little less wood.  Clean blue smoke.  If you have heavy smoke(white or black) you will get nasty flavors.   If your wood has bark on it that can also create some bad flavors.   You are doing it right by running your exhaust wide open and...

    Spacing for Aji varieties

Thats the plan is to only grow these in that bed.  In one of my other beds I will be transplanting the 4 reapers I currently have and hopefully 8 more of some type of super hots(3 rows of 4).  Im building initially 4 of these size beds in my yard.  The other 2 will most likely end up being...

    Spacing for Aji varieties

With a 6'x4' bed Im thinking on the 24" spacing.   12" off my bed walls in each corner and one in the middle.  That would give 12" to the bed wall's and the middle plant would be spaced basically 24" from either of the corner plants.  Then the front and back rows would be, again, 12" from the...

    Spacing for Aji varieties

gotcha.  yea im new to all these crazy types of peppers and trying to decide on a few different ones to grow next year outside of my 4 reapers I have growing right now.   This is the site I was looking at them on and figured Aji was a certain type with different varieties...

    Spacing for Aji varieties

ok thanks, so decent spacing and see how they grow but expect them to spread.  Im thinking 4 or maybe 5(one centered) in the bed and see how things go.   I didnt know anything about the naming of them, just going by what I see on a few different websites and there are 8 or 9 varieties all...

    Spacing for Aji varieties

Looking at growing 2 types of Aji next year; pineapple and sugar rush peach.   I understand these can grow 5-7 feet tall, but how big around do they get?   How much spacing should I give them?  The normal 18-24" or should I give them more like 36"?   Im building 4x6 raised beds so wondering if I...

    Raised Bed Garden Layout

yes partially for aesthetic reasons.  The other is the longest boards I can get are 16', and honestly I dont want to work with 16' lengths.  12' lengths allows me to handle them a little easier and cut them down into the sizes I have sketched out above.  I had toyed with the idea of doing a...
