Looking for a mild pepper variety similar to cherry hot

Hi, a few years ago a friend gave me some red peppers which looked similar to marconi sweet red pepper, or those bull type long pepper (corno de toro, etc).   i thought they were sweet up until i tasted them. to my surprise, they were spicy and very good. unfortunately, he didn't know what they...

Blackening Roots / Bubbly Leaf Appearance

how much light, fixture height and wattage? I see you are using LEDs which can lead to "too much light" if you don't have experience with them. the more intensive the light, the darker the stems get.. it's fine for the stem to darken, but be sure to check you have proper distance from LED.

A great debate: Seaweed kelp extract.

kelp is what most people are missing out on! ;) it works and it is probably one of the best things you can add to your garden aside from compost. I will never garden without it that's for sure.. there have been extensive research that proves how significant the results can be. in tomatoes it...

    Lessons you've learned this season

get a timer if you're going to get any kind of drip irrigation. last year I turned on the valve and after 6 hours I remembered to turn it off.

    Flower Drop

my pepper plants almost always drop flowers. it's mostly because they are not mature or ready to start fruiting. personally, I believe this is the #1 cause followed by being too hot/cold and that doesn't appear to be a factor. all 6 of my plants were dropping them last week, now that it has...

    ants in flowers. Cool!

true, but ants generally do more good than harm and insect problems such as aphids are generally easy to solve. here is something most people don't see or know about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBfbdJjJn9A   I recorded that last season. they killed the larvae that would of otherwise turned...

    fertilizer When do you fertilize?

that is what common practice seem to be, but the studies are showing the opposite. in the study, increasing nitrogen had much bigger impact on the amount of blossoms and fruit than giving higher PK   from what i'm beginning to realize is that lower nitrogen during negative growth is better...

    Another 5 inches of rain

you're going to be wishing for it in a month once summer really kicks in to July where there is typically a lot less rain in the US (more scattered/localized from summer storms). once you have really good soil most rain problems go away as drainage is significantly improved. every year I dump a...

    fertilizer When do you fertilize?

Hi, i was researching a bit about the optimum time to fertilize pepper plants and found an interesting document on research for peppers (something which lack unlike tomato research). link: http://hortsci.ashspublications.org/content/43/5/1549.full for my tomato plants, i typically wait until...

    Cutting question

yawn.. a pot plant isn't a pepper plant. last i remember you cannot take cuttings from a flowering pot plant because some how you have to stress it and force it back into vegetative growth by manipulating the amount of light hours it gets, and even doing that chance of success is slim...

    Cutting question

whether there is DNA in the roots or not, the plant doesn't give 2 shits about it because the plant grows based on the DNA in the stem cells..hence a cutting has no roots and the plant still grows genetically identical to the plant it came from. it's new plant and plant will flower when ever...

    Cutting question

believe what you want.. :-)   these are 3 week old pepper plants, started from seed, about 6 inches tall, already sending out flower buds..

    Cutting question

pepper plants don't really have a "vegetative" state like a lot of other plants do. they just flower when they feel like it, small or big.. i've had peppers from seed or cuttings flower only a couple weeks after spouting, bearing fruit at only 5-6 inches tall.. does that mark the plant DNA as...

    Cutting question

i believe the plant acts more as if it grew from seed, as if it were a new plant. a completely new root structure and completely new stem and tissue growth. the plant does not "know" it came from an older plant, and age/lifespan has more to do with size and root structure. kind of like taking a...

    seeds Green pod's and seed's.

doesn't hurt to try germinating a few to test.. it's not 100% required for the pod to be ripe, but it will increase chances of better germinating rate.

Daylight General Purpose LED - Walmart

probably ok for small plants/seedlings. problem if you don't use a reflector, much of the light is lost (scattered). for growing bigger plants, have a look at a T5 fixture. the bulbs are cheap, around $8-10 and each tube puts out 5,000 lumens. homedepot sells a decent 4 bulb fixture for around 80.

pics Took a step up to LEDs. Pics inside.

thinking of building my own, getting a bit tired all the heat with HID.   it is mind blowing at the costs of the premade units though. mars wants around 400-500 dollars for a unit that only covers a 2x4 area, unless i buy an LED unit that was designed in 2010.. i calculated i will spend around...

tutorial A Guide for Cloning Pepper Plants

IMO a "cloner" is a waste of money, even if its just $30 to build one..maybe if growing pot its worth the invest..   just buy rooting plugs, dirt cheap and just use a bit of hormone and stick stem inside plug and throw the plant inside a clear bag and that's basically it. no need to even water...
