    CUT LIST 2016

Wow nice. I was given an overwintered Red Savina a month ago from a nursery employee...for free ^_^ I never see Red Savina or anything more impressive than a generic 'Scoprion' for sale at my local nurseries. Is there a good one in Modesto to check out?

    Your oldest plants

I'm confident this is variety-dependent.   Smokemaster commented in this thread earlier that he got tired of filling buckets of pods from his 12+ yr old Habanero De Arbol each season.

    Is this OK?

Yeah it looks fine to me. I agree that sunlight will correct it. It was probably its positioning in relation to sunlight that made it grow that way to begin with.

    Hot M&M's

There was a thread here recently about them. *Edit: hottoddy beat me to it.   If it wasn't for the fact I hate chocolate I would give them a shot. Actually if they did this for their peanut butter kind I would. My tolerance is quite high... i'd be surprised if they warmed me up :P

    Cactus mix for peppers?

I just bought a bunch of 3 CF soil conditioner from Home Depot. I was able to toss those in the back of my pickup, but I wouldn't want to go heavier :P

    Cactus mix for peppers?

Yeah it will work. I've used it in 5 gallons with decent success. Things have improved drastically since picking up piles from a landscape supply place and mixing my own though.

    Whens your plant out ?

I put most of mine out mid April. I'm still planting out only because I was not on top my shit for a bit.

chinense Scotch Bonnet Haiti Red Review

Rocking :) That one was new to me. So this is also your first scotch bonnet? (I assume since you said it's probably the hottest you've had)   Since you're in Kauai, Hawaii are you growing your peppers perennially? I have a vested interest in growing in Hawaii so i'm especially curious.   Look...

    favorite Favorite pepper?

If you keep them in cups or small pots then you can still put them outdoors for more optimal growth, but they will need more shade as full-sun can be too brutal on smaller plants / less established root structures. Keeping them indoors works too. I'm doing that for many. Hell, I've kept plants...

    favorite Favorite pepper?

I'm still still starting peppers, including Chinense. I'll just keep them in solo cups / 1 gallons and overwinter them for next season. I sprout indoors at random times lol

    Your oldest plants

Many of my peppers survived outdoors in beds with winter temps dropping lower than 55. No protection. These were baccatums and a pubescen. The pubescen was happy about it actually.   I wasn't trying to over winter any, I just left them outside in beds. 12 overwintered this way, all baccatums...

    Your oldest plants

My oldest currently are a Serrano and Dragon Cayenne at 3 years. I have a bed with 18 plants I am going to keep overwintering with a pvc hoop house that fits over the bed. My aim is to keep them alive as long as they're willing.   3 years isn't even close to the oldest among members here.

Looking for Peach & White Varieties

Peach Fatalii and Jay's Peach Ghost Scorpion is all i'm doing this year. I've had neither so I can't vouch. Peach Naga and Peach Congo from PL caught my interest for next years grow.   Aji Melocoton is supposed to be a really good Baccatum from PL and it's peach I believe.

    Problem with my Rocotos

Sweet! I added 1 more variety to my grow this year. Three Turbo Pubes. *A name that other people seem to get a kick out of heh.

overwintering My 2 Best Over-Wintered Plants

Of my outdoor raised bed (deep depth) last season about half my plants survived and are on year two (outside entire time). There were 24 in the raised bed. None of my Chinense survived. The survivors were Baccatums and a Pubescen. Two of those survivors were Bishop's Crown. Baccatums are buff...

    hydroponic Why Hydroponics ?

I'm currently designing a aquaponic system for outdoor/greenhouse growing. I will be using goldfish instead of eating fish as they are more forgiving towards water temps. Something to consider.

    Any idea what these are?

I had my Thais in a big bed last season. They don't need that much space. I would put them in 4+ gallon pots though. My Asian markets are big on Thais peppers so my guess it that as well (it's definitely an Annuum).

    Problem with my Rocotos

Definitely. I wouldn't attempt it in anything under 5 gallon personally. *Obviously not a black pot either. I use 5-6 gallon white buckets for my pots (recycled from pool usage).   ideally I think Earth, raised bed with good depth, or even larger pots.

    Problem with my Rocotos

Here in Sactown we get consistent 100+ summer temps. My Pubecens plant definitely needed shade/cooler temps to thrive but it didn't die. Its been outside since a seedling and it's now two years old. Was yours in pots? Mine was in a large raised bed with 40% shade cloth. It could be the...

chinense Scotch Bonnets: MOA vs TFM

Chinense and Pubescens look the prettiest to my eyes. The foliage and purple blooms on my Giant Mexican Rocoto are great. My CGN21500 and PDN have awesome foliage and pods too.   I think it's awesome everyone has a different take on pepper flavor. I like growing a bunch of different varieties...
