misc Are Capsicum annuum peppers worth growing?

You make a great point, and I've considered this since my growing space is so small. I think I'll be growing Aleppo peppers again, but other than that, I'm done with annuums. They aren't worth the grow space And for me they have become quite a hassle since the squirrels in the area have...

How long for habaneros to ripen?

FWIW.... It was really bad with ash and haze where I'm at. One day--for the whole day--it was as dark as a night with a full moon. You couldn't even see across the street. The following 3 days were also pretty bad, the sun was dim red when it was visible. More of my pods ripened during this...

    chinense Chinense x Annuum crosses

Interestingly, I am growing two PDN crosses this year (7JPN and Sepia Reaper x PDN). Neither have purple flowers.   I'm also growing a PDN, but one of the Sepia Reaper x PDN plants actually has darker leaves than the PDN. So weird.   Two varieties I didn't expect to have purple flowers have...

    Roughrider?

It is not on WHP website. THP has a picture but no description: https://texashotpeppers.net/products/bbg7-roughrider-chocolate?_pos=1&_sid=4e22dacf7&_ss=r   I highly doubt this is variegated.   Perhaps this is a strain of BBG7 Chocolate selected for bumpiness, but it doesn't appear to have a...

wanted WTB/WTT Fresh peppers: any variety!

I'm putting together a "tasting journal" of peppers, so I'm interested in trying all sorts of different types of peppers. Whatever you may have.   In exchange, I can pay cash or trade seeds.   I have the following seeds to trade:   BTR Scorpion (open pollinated) Sugar Rush Peach (open...

    Name that Pepper!

Don't assume it's an orange bird. It's probably not, I was just saying that it looked similar. What I think is probable is that it is going to ripen to a color other than green. Just hang in there and see where it goes.

    misc Earliest hot peppers?

Agreed with above. If classifying cayenne as hot, then they are the earliest :) Aji Omnicolor is pretty hot too, and ripe at about the same time as my cayennes.

    Roughrider?

Recently made (yet another) seed order from White Hot Peppers and received quite a few bonus seed packs. Among them was BBG7 Roughrider Chocolate. The only place I've seen this for sale is Texas Hot Peppers, but there is no description there. Curious about this pepper. Anyone have more info...

    fermenting The cheapest fermentation weight!

Awesome idea. I bought some glass fermentation weights last year and they are frustrating to use. Your approach looks way better.

    Name that Pepper!

Looks like the Orange Bird I grew last year. This should probably go in the Pepper ID subforum.

    favorite Favorite pepper for flavor

The best tasting mild peppers I've had are Binquinho Red and Aji Fantasy. Love em both, but I really can't get enough of the B. red.   Naga Smooky Rainbow is a delicious mid heat variety. Beautiful plant as well. Also love Bahamian Goat.   My favorite tasting superhot is the unpopular Skunk...

Just put up a third batch

Seems risky. The manufacturers of prebiotics/probiotics have no regulatory commitment to prove that there are active cultures in their products. The only thing you are sure to add to your ferment are pharmaceutical excipients that compose the bulk of a tablet, such as croscaramellose sodium...

Two Trinidad Scorpions in same pot

FWIW I've got two Aleppo plants ion a 10-gallon pot. They are smaller than probably any of my other plants, many of which are in 3-gal grow bags. But the Aleppos are loaded with peppers and very healthy. I agree that you are increasing risk of problems when doubling up, but IMO, Caveman, you...

Are you reducing or omitting salt from ferments using the prebiotics?

mystery ailment on my prize superhots

Not likely that two plants of different varieties both mutated in the same way in the same season.   More likely herbicide drifted into the area or a virus.   If there are other peppers nearby that aren't affected, it's not likely to be herbicide drift.

Just put up a third batch

Looks very nice, wish I could smell it. Are you seeing better results with probiotic tablets than without? Do you have any concerns that they are primarily composed of pharmaceutical excipients?
