    Neem oil???

I read it comes from an evergreen tree or bush (citation needed),I wouldn't eat it.  It has worked well for me compared to the dish soap methods.  I don't use it unless desperate needs call for desperate deeds though.  For what it's worth.

    shade shade cover

I currently have 30% overhead and a 50% panel (as one wall) on the afternoon sun side.  It is working well for me so far.

cloning Self watering bucket/earthbox/diy clone questions.

I got some from a local grow/hydro shop for 33 cents each for the 5 inch.  Now the hole saw is a different story!   Edit:  Some unnecessary blank space.

cloning Self watering bucket/earthbox/diy clone questions.

On the topic of watering, overwatering, and letting things dry out:      I have peppers growing in plain old 5 gallon buckets (not self watering).  When it came to watering I used to just let them get wilty.  Then I employed the "finger poke" method to decide when to water them.  I have found...

Are you growing other peppers, and if so have they started to flower?

    Peach Wasp (PL) Pod Review

Wow!  Those look fantastically gnarly and menacing!  Thanks for showing me another pepper I've never heard of.  This place is rad.

    powder-flake equipment for making powder

That food dehydrator comes with 2 "fruit roll up" sheets, which are solid plastic and sit inside a tray.  They work well for drying your solids left over from making sauce and you can buy more.  I have that model and I've been really happy with it.  You can get more trays and stack them up to 12...

shade Suchen's leaning tower of shade

Nice setup!  I like the leaning tower of shade.  I put something similar on the end of my deck with 30% screen, but mine looks like it was made by boyscout dropouts or something, lol.  What lovely bushy plants those are as well.

    Caterpillars destroyed both jalapeños

There is hope! In my humble bucket garden I've been hit with quite a barrage of pests this year and for whatever reason the Jalapeno and Serrano are getting hit the hardest.  The plants got hit with Aphids first, then an earwig population explosion (presumably due to the mostly absence of winter...

hydroponic DIY guide: how to make off grid hydroponic self watering container

Nice job folks!  I've been trying these out as well with 5 gallon pickle buckets, and a couple 1 gallon for what the heck.  I will try and remember to take more progress pics like you all do.  I was initially just trying to save some water (here in dusty California), but with the other added...

My name is Jerry, and I have an earwig problem.

Thank you for the that!  And yes, you hit the nail on the head there.  In the early stages of pests I thought the wrinkled leaves and whatnot were signs of deficiency.  Epsom salt, fish emulsion, etc didn't help my bug problem (surprise!)  Being more of a tomato guy, that was a logical (or I...

Oh cool.  I have some Dr Bronner's tea tree oil soap.  Maybe I should work a little into the mix?  It is very pungent for sure.  Has an astringent quality to it almost.  Do you have a preferred flavor?  I kind of want to ask you folks many questions, but I'm not trying to get your secrets!  I am...

My name is Jerry, and I have an earwig problem.

What do you recommend specifically, and what is your regimen?  If you don't mind me asking, of course.  I used neem oil.  It seemed to take care of aphids but the earwigs were still after the new little growth here and there, but not as bad (A-holes!).  I have insecticidal soap, but I have not...

Still new here and new not great with imgur, so if this belongs somewhere else or my syntax for pics is screwy please let me know!  Thanks folks!  And sorry for the wall of text!   TLDR: trapping earwigs in the humble bucket garden.  This is happening on a  small (4'x7') area of a wooden deck.  ...

2 Peppers 1 pot, 1 much smaller... Suggestions?

Ah, cool beans!  I am doing a little bit of messing about with the idea this year.  Semi newbishness follows: This year I am trying most of my peppers 2 each to a 5 gallon bucket.  There is plenty of "conventional wisdom"  that would advise otherwise, but I learn better by making my own...

pruning Topping off soil with perlite?

I tried this once thinking it would act as a mulch or similar.  It floated up when I watered and didn't let the soil  heat up so my soil stayed soggy under the layer.  I actually started to get algae between the layer of perlite and soil so I abandoned the idea.  Maybe others have had different...

    Hello from California

Hi there folks, Jerry here.  New member, but I have been shamelessly lurking and mining info for a while  so I should at least drop in to say hello!  I have recently moved and don't have as much space to grow.  So I have embarked on a new adventure...the humble bucket garden.  I have 8...
