    Powdery Mildew or Edema?

Yes absolutely cannot be wiped, that would be a BIG indication it's not PM.   Yes, I am aware the pots are too small, but in the past it worked at this size. Currently it is very hot (yes, the plants are in a green house, RH is usually 55%). The pots do however get bone-dry pretty much every day...

    Powdery Mildew or Edema?

I have already posted about my plants (Jalapenos) not doing well, but now I discovered that I must have a massive problem with either edema, or powdery mildew. The thing is, I can't really say which one, even when I look at the stuff with a microscope.   There is this white to yellowish...

Leaves curl up, get thick/stiff/leathery, turn yellow and fall off?

Sorry for not providing pics, but my description should be sufficient.   I am growing Jalepenos. Leaves (including upper leaves) are feeling "thick" and leathery, feel stiff and dry. They curl up on the sides and become yellowish in parts. Lower leaves turn completely yellow and then drop.   N...

White, crystal-like stuff on underside of leaves?

Well humidity I don't really have under control, but I just checked, it was 45%. AFAIK it's mostly in that range.

White, crystal-like stuff on underside of leaves?

So strange, the pots are always dry when I water, and I have a fan running 24/7 over my plants.   Interesting bit: The plant closest to the fan has it worst, especially the leaf directly in the stream of the fan.

White, crystal-like stuff on underside of leaves?

Not my picture but this is exactly what it is.   This is on my Jalepeno plants which are in my greenhouse on the balcony. I already checked with a loupe, but I don't see aphids. It's a substance which looks like snow/crystal and cannot be wiped off I think.   Thanks!

seeds fail to germinate seeds? try my method

This method is not much different to what I do, put seeds in a tray/cup, on a towel, moisten it and then put a bag over it. I usually don't even pre-germinate peppers and plant just right into jiffies or soil. But this time, I had seeds which I saved from last year, which did not want to...

sun Plants in full sun throughout the day

I am in SW Spain, and the sun and heat here are brutal. When I started growing, my main concern was to give the plants as much sun as possible. Now, my main concern is actually to protect my plants from the sun. (I am growing "on the roof" where there is basically direct sun, all day long, and...

Growing Jalapenos - when to transplant & fertilizing question

You have an aphid infestation AND a caterpillar problem.   Get "insecticidial soap" for the aphids to kill all of them on contact, and also Neem oil. Neem is more preventive.   What the other guy said with using Neem for caterpillars is not true. Caterpillars need other stuff, like "bacteria...

soil GHE Flora in soil. Dosage?

I still have bottles of the ol' GHE FLORA series, Grow, Bloom & Micro. Is anyone using these for peppers in pots, outdoors and in soil?   What dosage are you using and how often do you feed your plants with it?   Thanks!   Edit: I am aware it might not be an optimal nutrient for peppers in soil...

    Azamax and Neem

I am not using Azamax per se but an equivalent product available here, which is also 3.2% azadiractin in a tiny 15ml bottle. I mix it/emulsify it with insecticidal soap. Use this combo for years already, never had a problem.   The reason why I don't just get any random "Neem oil" from ebay etc...

seeds Crumpled/Distorted/Curled Leaves - (And some won't germinate)

(I didn't take pictures you can google "pepper plants crumpled leaves" and you'll see classic examples, this is exactly how mine look).   I am growing several different Jalapeno varieties, and this season it is *really* bad with those crumpled/curled leaves. The plants are very young and some...

E-cigs in the grow room... Propylene Glycol and Gycerin. No Fruit

I think thinking of e-cigs here might be a stretch... I am surprised you didn't mention the likely biggest difference to outdoors: Your LIGHT. What lights are you using, and at how many light hours per day? Also..what nutes are you giving? Although I think nutes are less likely the reason. I...

pests Sad day... Aphids win this time

These are not aphids (correct me if wrong!) but gnats. Fungus gnats are actually RELATIVELY harmless and they normally a sign of overwatering. So if you have them, the real problem is that your soil doesn't dry out between waterings...because otherwise you wouldn't have the gnats. (They lay...

pests Sad day... Aphids win this time

Aphids are SO easy...compared to other pests.   All you need is insecticidal soap ("potassium soap") and mix with water and spray. Better even if you mix some Neem oil with it too. I JUST disovered (a few) mites on my plants and just got in from spraying. I had massive infestations already, when...

health Lower leaves getting yellow, brittle, some brownish spots and then fall off

This happens always at the end of the season, like right now. (I am growing in Spain in a green house on the balcony, 18hrs light, but night time temps right now can get down the 45-50Fs, so it's a little chilly at night.   I am growing Seranos in various ways (for some years already), in soil...

    PH adjusters

I am using Floranova Bloom which is the most awesome nutrient. (Google "Lucas Formula" if you need some info why I use it). The HUGE benefit: One single bottle, ultra-concentrated (for 1L I only need 2.1ml at most) and it already corrects the pH down. (I am now only using pH down if I mix...

My Cree CXB3590 grow light setup

Cheezus did I really have 14 plants in there last year?   I don't remember whether it was this grow from the picture or another...but it was way too many plants for my greenhouse..which led that one of my last harvests basically all plants were infected with powdery mildew. Really, really bad...

lighting Thoughts and opinions on LED grow lights

Saying COB are an "all in one unit" is so not accurate. "Chip on Board" is correct tho.   Yes, you still need a driver (or "power supply") for COBs. The "difference", is that COBs have multiple (sometimes 100s) of individual, small LEDs "on chip", in the case of the CREE COBs 100s of white LEDs...

    Need Help with Cherry Tomatoes

In the meantime ...   I saved and fermented seeds, I even planted some and they are actually growing.   Unfortunately, my tomatoes are affected by SOME nasty disease which is likely some fungal disease. The two older plants (in the picture) are basically pretty much dead and most of the leaves...
