chinense History Lesson on Bhuts / Ghosts Please

I'm not trying to cause trouble or hijack this thread, but I think it would be more appropriate to say "Introduced to the rest of the world" or "Made known to..." instead of "Discovered" in 2001 out of respect to the people who grew it for so many generations in India before it was known to the...

    Anyone grow Fennel?

Not all fennel cultivars grow the "bulb". There are specific types that do, looks like you have the ones that don't. I just grow the bronze fennel mostly to feed/host Black swallowtail butterfly larvae.

    mole or mice

A mole wouldn't survive long inside at all, must be a mouse. Anything else (like a chipmunk) would make themselves known pretty quick!

    favorite whats your favorite baccatum?,

Mmmmm? I think you need to look at the title of the thread and read my response more carefully. I'm not sure where I say I don't like the others? And how dare someone not like baccatums! hehe?

    Cayenne pepper variety question

I second the Indian Jwala recommendation!   The Congo Trinidad is an amazing flavored chile but keep in mind it tastes nothing like the cayenne flavor you are seeking.

    favorite whats your favorite baccatum?,

Wow! No mention of THE best of all baccatums, the one and only Peruvian Aji Amarillo? Nothing comes close in my opinion! Oh, and I like Aji Cristal, Omnicolor, "Lemon Drop"/Limon, and every red colored baccatum I've tried as well.

Hot peppers that produce in high temperature summers?

Oh, and the frutescens do well in the heat as well.

Hot peppers that produce in high temperature summers?

The only chinensis I've seen produce through the hottest part of the summer are the Orange Habaneros, otherwise most of what seems tolerant of heat are some of the annuums like many of the cayenne types, Thai and Indian types (some being like cayennes), Piquins, Chiltepins, Del Arbol, and to...

Highalt's 2013 Grow - End of Season Wrap Up

I believe your mystery pepper on pg 36 is an Aji Limo. Keep in mind that they may vary a little in size, shape, and color. Limo Rojo typically goes from light green to purple, orange/yellow (sometimes), and then to red. We North Americans like to give a new name to every shape/size/color that...

food Looking for Slow Cooked Refried Bean Recipe

My wife is from Honduras, so we eat frijoles refritos almost daily! We use Central American red beans that are popular in El Salvador and parts of Honduras, they are usually found in any Mexican Grocery labeled as "Central American Red Beans". I think they taste best when cooked in a soup pot...

    looking for best cayenne

I like most of the cayenne types I've had but Jwala is one I grow every year now, so I would say it has become my favorite cayenne-type chile.

The Aji amarillo, a Peruvian Treasure!

The "Real" Peruvian Aji Amarillo ripens to orange. It is called "Amarillo" because when you use it in cooking or salsas, the resulting color of the food/salsa is yellow-ish. For example if you have ever seen or had Papas a la Huancaina or Aji de Gallina you will notice they are yellow in color...

    Giant larvae

100% sure they are not cicada "larvae". Cicadas undergo "incomplete" metamorphosis so their immature stages are more often referred to as "nymphs" and they more or less look like the adults without wings (and different color in this case). To add to the confusion, any immature insect technically...

    Open Pollination ????

Depends on whether or not the OP were isolated or not. OP does NOT mean non-isolated, but OP can be isolated OR non-isolated, confused yet? In horticultural speak, OP generally means non-hybrid in terms of parent plants. For example heirlooms are all OP, but you should isolate them in order to...
