pics How rare is a variegated leaved mutant? Pics included!

I was initially wondering whether the pepper was the result of a cross at the nursery, but this particular vendor only sells the really common orange habs, jalepenos, long slim red cayennes, serranos, etc...so I am fairly convinced that this is a mutation. If the pods themselves turn out to have...

pics How rare is a variegated leaved mutant? Pics included!

Oh, and a friend who just spent 6 months in the galapagos doing research told me she smuggled some native chile pepper seed out of the country for me. Double score...

pics How rare is a variegated leaved mutant? Pics included!

My question is, how rare is it for a pepper variety to randomly have variegated leaves? Do any of you have experience with any of your seedlings that uncharacteristically put out this trait? Thing is, this year is the year of the fish pepper for me, because I like the fact that it has a...

    Bhut Jolokias

Wow Potawie, what was your method to get the plant that big? It looks like you have a bottomless container set in the ground, unless my eyes are deceiving me. What kind of nutrients/feeding schedule did you use? I'm always up for hearing about how other growers do thing...

    Datil seeds

No real expectations other than hopefully a scorcher of a yellow pointy pod, and being able to call it a cool name like Datali. Maybe they will be easier to cross since they are kind of similar? It's mainly just for fun and curiosity really.

    Datil seeds

On a somewhat related note, I plan on trying to make a cross between the Datil and Fatali so I can sell seeds on eBay for $10.00 a piece, and call it the "Infinity + 1 Pepper". Additionally, I plan on giving all THPers a special 50% discount! But seriously, I am going to try it, and I actually...

    Datil seeds

They sell all of their varieties for $4.00 a 20-25 seed pack (Bhuts are $6.00), and there is a minimum order of $15.00 before shipping. That wasn't too much of a big deal for me, since I bought other varieties I needed as well (Tabasco & Bhut Jolokia).

    djsketchie's 2010 grow log

More pics... Variegated Banana Pepper - I work part-time at a large garden shop, and we go through tons of chile pepper flats a week. I happened to see this variegated hot banana pepper while I was organizing flats, so I took it off the table and hid it for myself to buy when I got off work...

    djsketchie's 2010 grow log

After a long hiatus... I finally found some time to update my grow log, and figured out an easier way to host images! I have skipped quite a few weeks due to school and work craziness, so I have jumped from toddlers to early 20's. Most of these pics were taken this morning after a VERY...

    Datil seeds

Another source for good datil seed is the NMSU Chile Pepper Institute. They just started offering these for the 2010 growing seasin, and I ordered from them in January. They were some of my best performers in the germination station, but I don't have any left over seeds to send you since I used...

Fish pepper anyone? There is more to chile peppers than the superhots!!! I have one growing right now about a foot tall and all decked out with dark green, light green, and creamy white foliage. Absolute show stopper...that being said, i do have the usual bhut jolokia's, fatali's, habanero's...

Got some serious leaf cupping going on...

ha, i totally forgot about starting this thread...been too busy with work and school to take pics and upload them to my server etc. i think i answered my own question though by looking through pics of other people's peppers. apparently choco hab's tend to cup quite a bit and smooth out once the...

    How Deep to plant Peppers?

i plant them deep more for stability than anything else, but if the stem is already getting woody, as was the case with several that i re-potted a few weeks ago, then i would keep the woody stem above ground. i haven't seen much evidence of peppers putting roots out of their buried stems from my...

Started on the raised bed project

quick idea if you haven't considered it yet, but i've seen these cinder block raised beds where the holes lining the outside were planted with all kinds of herbs and smaller veggies...or you could just plant some nice flowers to attract pollinating insects. in any case, this looks awesome, and i...

-1 for jumping to conclusions. the way i see it, this guy wants to grow some chile peppers. at some point in the future, he wants to sell some seeds based from the peppers he grew whether the seeds were bought or traded for. he has given us all the relevant info to check out his selling business...

Got some serious leaf cupping going on...

So I managed to get all my prized seedlings into their 5 gallon buckets, and they all look really healthy, but most if not all have some serious leaf cupping going on. I know all about the chinense and their need for calcium, but I mixed bonemeal straight into the potting soil i used. Perhaps it...

Does Fish / Seaweed Emulsion Go Bad?

just to post a quick update, i've been using the year old bottle for a few weeks now, and it had definitely improved growth...almost too fast. it's not quite warm enough to transplant them to their 5 gal buckets yet!
