seeds Removing plants/seedlings from root pouches

Personally i don't forsee any problem removing them, i wouldn't cut the pouches on the first couple that you attempt. In your first attempt you can try removing one with slightly drier soil, and the other with slightly damp soil. My guess is the drier ones will be more compact and easier to...

    Fungus Gnats Are Killing Me!!!

Agreed with Smokemaster, and i forgot to mention that earlier, i also grinded up chunks and scratched it into the top of the soil.   There may be some luck involved as i have always broken their cycle in around 2 weeks, give or take.   I personally never had much luck with hydrogen peroxide...

    grolight question

Yep, but it should be a more powerful one closer to the 54 "actual" watts like the bulb you were using (don't confuse actual watts with equivalent watts)   Cool white, Bright white or Daylight would be preferable. You might have a grow/supply store nearby that carries the better ones.

    grocery store pepper id

Seems like some commercialized caribbean variety to me too. There could be any number of gene's in there, some mild seasoning pepper type, or scotch bonnet, Trinidad Perfume, etc etc.   Since mild Chinense types are somewhat uncommon, i'd hold onto a bunch of seed. I suppose you could name them...

    Biotone Starter Plus, What strength?

Better less than more with seedlings that small. People also give weak doses to full sized plants, they just feed them more often.   Checking out the Biotone Starter Plus data sheet, it looks like partial slow release, which means it would probably not burn the plant. If you are concerned with...

I thought this was a giant choco hab... having doubts

I don't believe those pods will turn brown, but from the looks of it you'll soon have a Chinense bumper crop.   Very nice.

    Fungus Gnats Are Killing Me!!!

I didn't see if it was mentioned but those pesky gnats also lay eggs in the side + bottom drain holes. Otherwise i'd also say you are on the right path.

    Weird Manzano Growth Pattern

If the non-self pollinating part is true (?), it isn' too late to plant a companion. At the very least the new plant will send out flowers to do their duty.

    grolight question

I see 3 or 4 that may be goners, but don't throw any out just yet.   Keep the lights and temps steady and the rest should be fine, you still have a good head start.

    Alternative to Piquante?

TY Simon. The seller i linked is in Australia, he will ship to the UK. You can purchase seed from his website, or his Ebay store.   Many of us have been buying from John the Chilli Man for years. Edit: almost forgot, I cannot confirm but a couple of people have claimed that the Malawi baccatum...

    grolight question

I'm guessing that most will survive, depends on if they got touched by frost.   The nodes will send out new leaves and branches within a couple of weeks of warm steady temps. They may look worse before they start looking better.   I'd say the hard part is over, just don't overwater them. Good...

    Alternative to Piquante?

I am familiar with Peppadew. Not sure if you were aware, or willing, but Ebay.co.uk has a couple of sellers. The AjiJoe Peppadont that rebelgrower mentioned sounds like a winner as well.   www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peppadew-sweet-piquante-pepper-seeds-/271389613912  ...

HID Light + Cable modem = Some sort of interference

I've heard the same, Apollo and iPower digital ballasts can produce RF interference for 1/2 of your neighborhood. I'll bet that clone ballasts that come out of the same factories will have the same effect.   And in those same discussion threads, i've heard that Lumatek digital ballasts do not...

300w led. When is it safe to use?

When testing seed viability I let seedlings sprout in direct sunshine 90f. As Geonerd said, you just have to keep an eye on things, including temps right at the soil level, don't let them fry up.

breeding Cross Pollination ideas for Numex Big Jim

Big Peter .... now you're onto something.   How about crossing the Big Jim with a Monkey Face pepper. You could spin the name a few different ways  ;)

seeds Distilled water for seed starting?

None of it is necessary imho but distilled or filtered water would probably help the Myco's get a better head start.   But i wouldn't bother with it for too long if it's costly or inconvenient.

    chinense CPI Bhut Variation

^^ yep, those also look like over-ripe late season pods like mine were; cracked skin near the calyx etc. The leaves even seem like lighter colored autumn leaves too .... less green with a touch of yellow.   From what i have read, CPI seeds are notorious for taking a long time to sprout, i know...

    chinense CPI Bhut Variation

The two middle pods are CPI bhuts from seeds purchased in 2010, and grown out in 2011, nearly 3" long. All of them had tapered tops and bottoms with a bulky waistline.   The top pod is an F1 Hab x Bhut cross from one plant, the bottom pod is also an F1 Hab x Bhut cross from another plant (the...

    nutrients Nutes & Seedlings

Agreed with Pepper Head.   Ocean Forest is great stuff, but supposedly hot for seedlings. Depending on how much dirt is in the cell (or cups?) you can probably wait quite a while to feed them.   I'm guessing that since they won't be fruiting anytime soon, they would need nitrogen first. So in a...
